The document discusses feedback received about a media product, including positive feedback that highlighted effective use of camera angles, editing, costumes, and special effects. Negative feedback noted some singing and drumming was out of sync and that there was no clear storyline. New media technologies were used in constructing, researching, planning and evaluating the project.

Evaluation of a Media Product and Audience Feedback
1. Evaluation In what way does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2.
3. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
4. What have you learned from your audience feedback? Positive feedback from the audience Used a range of camera angles, good use of black and white, lots of different shots, editing was in time to the music, good costumes, good use of green screen and special effects, good shot variation, and good use of transitions Negative feedback Some of the singing and drumming was slightly out of sync There wasn't a storyline
5. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Editor's Notes
We used forms and conventions in terms of editing. Everything was in sync and we used black and white which stuck to conventions of mise en scene in many videos of the alternative rock genre. Direct mode of address was used; however Lewis was filmed walking whilst looking off camera and the ending shot of the video was his silluette in the distance with his back to the camera, which challenges conventions as typically you may see a close up of the front man of the band. Our video didn't have a narrative and all the members of the band were featured which suited the genre of alternative rock. We stuck to convention by using the green screen as this was used in many of the videos we looked at.
As we had a clear idea of the style of video we wanted to make from the beginning, our audience research was not very useful. The questions that we asked on our questionnaire should have been more specific to our genre if we had already decided on alternative rock. Unfortunately as we conducted our audience research within the college, the majority of people that we asked were not interested in our chosen genre. Therefore it was hard to gain the information we needed to help target our audience. However, our ancillary cd cover and magazine deconstructions were useful. Looking at different images of how various bands of the alternative rock genre market themselves and promote their music, gave us a clear idea of how we should do the same. Rather than deciding on a genre and conventions we should use based on our audience research we already had an idea of the style of video and music genre that we wanted. Therefore it was hard to gain the information we needed to help target our audience. In our questionnaire we included a question asking for the favourite album cover from 3 examples which we had chosen from our intended genre, rather than asking for an all round favourite album cover as we that would have given us a bigger selection to choose from. A final point relating to the questionnaire is that we should have tailored it to our chosen genre and handed it out to people that fitted into our target audience in order to receive the most qualitative feedback. During the planning stage we constructed a piece of work in which we storyboarded an existing film so that we could get an understanding of the concept, this was effective and proved useful in the further planning and also saved time in the production stage. In relation to our print work, we analysed existing works to note generic conventions within our genre such as having a recognisable band logo, including an image of the band on either the album cover or digi pack and also features such as fonts, colours and layout.
What this tells us The negative feedback from our audience tells us that we need to make sure that the original footage we film is in sync. As we were very careful when editing on Adobe Premier Pro we believe that the mouth movements may have been slightly out of sync when Lewis sung the lyrics, making it impossible to look perfectly in sync on screen. The audience felt some of the drumming was slightly out of sync, which would have been due to Lewis not having had played the song before, rather than our editing. In the future we should practise with the instruments more and learn the lyrics to the song. The positive feedback tells us what we did well and we can apply the same techniques if we were to make another video. However, we could make a video of a different genre which will allow us to use different locations, props, costume and make up. We could make a video with a storyline which will allow us to learn more about different styles of filming to fit with the kind of genre that would have a video with a storyline such as 'Pop'. A strong point of our video was the way the shots looked in black and white, next time we could make a video in colour and develop a better understanding of how to make colours look more vivid on screen.
Our research involved watching a lot of different videos on Youtube once we had decided to make a video of the alternative rock genre. We decided on this genre as it was something we were all familiar with and enjoy. We watched videos by The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse. Youtube allowed us to browse as many artists as we wanted and take inspiration from their videos. However we did not want to copy anything directly and we careful to make a change to anything we saw that we thought would suit our video and be effective visually. We also used Google images to find pictures of album covers to help us construct our ancillary products.
We used Adobe Photoshop in the construction stage for our print work, we chose to use this program as it is widely available throughout the college. Another reason for using this program is because we have had previous experience using it, especially during the AS coursework stage which was solely based on print work. We also used Adobe Photoshop in the planning stage when we took photos of potential locations and also when we came to storyboard. The main program which we used during the construction stage was Adobe Premier Pro, this technology allowed us to import video clips from an external source; which in our case was a compact digital camera. Premier allowed us to upload the footage; we then cut, copied and pasted specific parts of the video and added built in effects in order to achieve our intended result. Using this programme allowed us to edit with ease as we could change the order of the clips, change the speed, cut out sections completely and add them again if we changed our minds. This program also aided us in our evaluation of our product as it gave us a great understanding of the strengths and weaknesses that we faced and allowed us to comment on future improvements. Sections of our video included green screening, we used a compact digital camera and filmed in front of a large green sheet; we then uploaded the footage and placed videos/images from sources such as Google images, YouTube and also other video files that we had created.
