– It expires
– The marriage or marriage-like relationship ends

– Are not in your first marriage
– Are a home owner
– Have RRSPs, trust funds, stocks etc.
– Have Children
– Wish to have several persons as beneficiaries

Purpose of LTA
• The purpose of LTA is to reimburse CAF
members for some expenses paid while on
leave to meet a family member.
• Any members sailing with VANCOUVER on
RIMPAC/WESPLOY will be entitled to claim
LTA.

Define Family for LTA purposes
• Family member (in order of who can use benefit)
1. Spouse or Common Law Partner
2. Child
3. Parent
4. Sibling

Authorized Destinations
• In respect of LTA travel:
– By the member to their loved one’s principal residence, or
to a third location where a dependant is; or
– By a loved one to the member’s place of duty or to a third
location where the member is. (Reverse LTA)

Amount – Traveling from outside CAN USA
• The amount of the LTA is the lesser:
• of the actual cost of return travel by commercial carrier; and
• of the amount determined by the following formula:
{({D x 2} – 800km) –P} x OLKR (Ontario lower kilometric rate )
For this trip the current amount is $2300.00 CDN

Keep in mind that the OLKR is updated quarterly and may therefore change
between now and the time people are booking/submitting claims.

LTA – Points To Remember
• Family Members are determined by a hierarchy, and you must
visit with the highest level.
• Proof of travel is required (leave pass stamped, receipts,
boarding passes, etc).
• For a member with dependants, the member must be away
for 60 continuous days in order to be entitled to an LTA.
• You may travel to your destination via commercial airway,
train or bus. Only one mode of transportation is claimable.

deal most successfully with deployments.

A few tips from our families:
• Put emergency plan on your fridge, give a copy to
your emergency contact.
• Grab some MFRC fridge magnets, give one to each
of your contacts.
• For the partner at home, consider unlocking the
cell phone and putting emergency contact
information on the phone.
• If you are leaving your home vacant, leave your
key and our number with someone you trust!
