Now in its 5th year, the Turkey GRI continues to attract over 200 local and international leaders in
real estate investment in Turkey, a country where the real estate sector has historically been driven
by sustainable economic growth, urbanisation, high employment, rapid population growth and
increasing foreign direct investment.
The favourable conditions have not escaped the radar of foreign investors wanting to take advantage
of tremendous growth opportunities, especially those in the Arab world. The new Turkish property
law allowing many more foreign nationals to buy property in Turkey, coupled with an urban
regeneration plan that has been adopted by the Turkish government as an urgent national priority is
set to boost the sector further.
However, with a bearish outlook for the Turkish economy in 2012, what impact will a slowdown
in economic growth have on the sector? Will the disruption in the dynamic supply and demand
relationship change the trajectory of the real estate market?
