Welcome to the training module on Littelfuse 438 Series fast-Acting Ceramic SMD Fuse. This training module introduces the 438 Series fast-Acting Ceramic 0603 SMD Fuse and its applications.
The 438 series fuse is 0603-size, fast-acting surface-mount fuse. the 438 Series operates effectively in temperatures ranging from -55ºC up to 150ºC without nuisance tripping. The 438 Series includes UL and CSA agency approval and is available in current ratings from 250mA to 6A allowing this series of fuses to be used in a variety of applications. Each fuse has a maximum fault current rating (Interrupt Rating) of 50A and is 100 percent lead-free, halogen-free, and compliant with RoHS requirements.
The 438 series has fast response to faulty current to ensure over-current protection to sensitive electronic component. It is the 0603 fast-acting SMD fuse with operating temperature from -55 O C to 150 O C. It provides robust performance and highly reliable protection in ultra high temperature working environment. It also has highly improved thermal de-rating curve. Its higher nominal melting I 2 t provides higher inrush current capability than the competitors’ 0603 fast-acting fuses. Its broad current ratings from 250mA to 6A offer wide selection to fit different applications’ requirements. The 438 series is suitable for Lead-Free and Leaded reflow and wave soldering.
There is a growing need for protection in electronic applications in which high ambient operating temperatures are common. For example, LCD inverters, LCD TVs, LCD monitors, notebook computers, hard disk drives, XDSL modems, set-top boxes, and gaming consoles may experience temperature extremes. The 438 Series is ideal for electronics applications with high ambient operating temperatures.
Here shows how the 438 series’ part numbers correspond with the nominal current rating.

Circuits shown here can experience overload, short circuit conditions, or voltage transients, so the 438 series fuse on Li-Ion battery pack could protect the battery from the hazard of overheating and fire.
