Dps Bangalore South School Newsletter September 2010
1. ‘Only as high as I reach can I grow,
Only as far as I seek can I go,
Only as deep as I look can I see,
Only as much as I dream can I be…’
Believing in the infinite boundary, having faith in innate limitless possibilities and implicit abilities,
DPS Bangalore South marches forward with élan. Well into the academic session, the past few
months have been dotted with milestones achieved.
SCHOLASTIC EXCELLENCE
The brilliant results obtained by the Class XII of 2010 fortify our progress in this domain. The
records of distinctions in the Science stream and in the Commerce stream vouch for the fact that
DPS Bangalore South has always been in the forefront in scaling greater heights of excellence.
Following suit, the Class X of 2010 proved their mettle with as many as 15 students obtaining a
national percentile of above 99, i.e., they stand among the top 0.1% students across the country!
The month of June was also marked by another very significant event – when DPS Bangalore South
was awarded the International School Award [ISA]. In the year 2003 the British Council, India
introduced the International School Award in India as a pilot project. Through the pilot project it
developed an award scheme to recognize the work of Indian schools with international links that
include the UK.
The ISA project spearheaded by Ms. Vanee, under the guidance of Ms. Chitra Sharma, Vice Principal
provided the school with a valuable tool to design, develop and implement international activities,
involve teachers and students across subjects and ages in an organized way, enhance public
relations and optimize opportunities for networking.
2. CCE
“We must become the change we want to see.”
- Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
The Continuous and Comprehensive evaluation is a progressive initiative by the CBSE to reduce the
workload on students and to improve the overall skill and ability of the student by means of
evaluation of scholastic and co-scholastic activities based on academics as well as work experience
skills, dexterity, innovation, teamwork, public speaking, behaviour, etc..
At DPS Bangalore South the teachers have worked very diligently towards fulfilling the criteria as
specified by the CBSE under the CCE scheme. The projects and assignments are being implemented
to ensure a holistic development of every individual.
NAMASTE DEUTSCHLAND
Initiated by Goethe Institute as an inimitable part of the exchange programme with partner School
Christoph Jacob Treu Gymnasium, Lauf, Germany, Delhi Public School Bangalore South chose
Methane Emission as the participatory project in the International Competition on Environmental
Protection.
The project commenced in the month of April with 18 students of Std. IX and X engaged in research
on the minutiae of nature and characteristics of Methane and mitigation solutions through
sustainable cattle-feed. The students met scientists at the NIANP [National Institute of Animal
Nutrition and Physiology] that enabled them to amass a lot of information regarding their project.
The team of enthusiastic Dipsites then left the shores of Bangalore to Germany to work in
partnership with the students of CJT, Lauf towards completing the first phase of the project.
We now await the arrival of the German students at the end of October to work collaboratively
towards further accentuating the results that will be finally presented as recommendations to the
Ministry of Agriculture, India, the European Union and the United Nations.
3. DPS PLAYS HOST
Five students from the United Kingdom visited the school and had a hands-on-experience of Indian
Education and Indian Hospitality. The interaction and exchange of information that took place
between Philip Gurney, Haydon, Elijah Bossa, Gemma Colucci, Aoife Nechowska and students of
our school has undoubtedly left an indelible impression on each mind.
The interaction with Mr. Mansoor Ali Khan, esteemed Member, Board of Management turned out to
be one of the most useful sessions as the guests were provided great insight into the Indian
education system. The guests had the unique opportunity of visiting Premseva Nagar at Kolar with
the NSS volunteers and participate in the community service programme scheduled in the month of
August. The colours of Incredible India were visualized by them when they witnessed the various
activities of the Heritage club. The guests also had a great time when they visited the Tibetan
Monastery at Kushal Nagar. To add to the fun and frolic they went ‘coracle riding’ at the Barachukki
falls in Shivanasamudram.
4. On a more sombre note, the five students
along side a team of smart Dipsites had
the unique opportunity of interacting with
the famous environmentalist Mr. Ahmed
Khan, revered Member, Board of
Management and a trail blazer who has
revolutionized the usage of recycled plastic
in the construction of roads.
The school would like to place on record
an appreciation to the families of Rajath
Bail, Sahil Jain, Sharadh Jois, Nayanika
Dutta and Avanti Ravi who so graciously consented
to host the five guests from UK for a period of two
weeks. The guests were overwhelmed by their
hospitality and had a difficult time bidding adieu!
Mrs. Caroline Wilshaw, Coordinator for DFID
projects visited the school as part of the Global
School Partnership programme. The DFID
[Department for International Development, U.K]
programme provides advice and guidance, professional development opportunities and grants to
schools that are using school partnerships as a means for developing ‘a global dimension’ within
their curriculum. The programme aims to raise
young people’s awareness of global
development issues and equip them with the
skills and knowledge to become active global
citizens through the development of joint
curricular work and exchange visits.
Discussions were held at length about
implementing the projects over the next few
months.
Mrs. Caroline also participated in the various
environmental initiatives, proposed by the
school in an endeavour to become the first
‘Green School’ in Bangalore.
5. AT DPS Bangalore South we have always believed that the test we must set for ourselves is not to
march alone but to march in such a way that others wish to join us..
The school has always been a forerunner in terms of setting an example especially on voicing
environmental concerns. The school has been involved with organizations such as TERI at various
levels in order to educate students about the diverse techniques of sustainable development.
In an attempt to instill eco consciousness amidst the DPS Bangalore South fraternity a
Memorandum of understanding [MoU] has been signed between DPS Bangalore South and RMZ.
The initiative will involve students of varied age groups in the execution of projects designed by the
RMZ.
FIFA Fever at DPS
The world cup that had the world engrossed also gripped DPS Bangalore South that witnessed the
soccer mania reaching a fever pitch starting from awarding a goal instead of ‘well done’ for scoring
full marks, to displaying huge banners of players to usher in a carnival mood. An Inter - DPS
Bangalore Football Tournament was held and the team from DPS Bangalore South walked away
with the honours!!!
Inter - DPS Quiz 2010
The Delhi Public Schools of the Southern and
Central Zone came together in a scintillating Quiz
Competition, vying for the top position in an
exciting finale. The venue was DPS, Bangalore

Police, Bangalore was the esteemed Chief Guest at
the inaugural ceremony.
6. The questions covered a wide gamut, from Science and Technology, Music and Entertainment,
States and National issues, as well as History and Geography. There was resounding applause as the
students came up with the right answers to seemingly ‘impossible’ questions.

Baksy, was greeted with loud cheering from the viewers, as they emerged victorious. The Runners

competitions in the present scenario and about
how Quiz 2010 was the perfect platform to
witness the best brains of the country trying to
prove their mettle by securing the top positions
in the competition.
Scholastic Word Master Challenge
DPS Bangalore South served to be the perfect platform for
the Scholastic Word Master Challenge where students from
62 schools rivalled against each other to prove their
proficiency in the English Language.
7. The Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour in each block. The Kindergarten
section held a special painting competition for the parents on the same theme. An array of
programmes that included a skit, a dance and elaborate
speeches on the varied aspects of the Freedom struggle
marked the celebrations at the Senior level.
DPS Bangalore South has always upheld the need to charter
new routes of self discovery. The aim in this process is towards
acquisition of true knowledge and essential life skills which
will undoubtedly set them apart from other members of the
student fraternity.
In conclusion,
“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time…..”
