1. TITLE:
2. SELF-ASSESSMENT EXAMINATION FOR CAMPUS RECRUITMENT TRAINING
2. PROBLEM STATEMENT:
To develop a proper system to conduct an online aptitude test series and provide not
merely the result, but a detailed evaluation of the aspirant’s strengths and weaknesses,
which is the most important factor for self-assessment and further counselling for overall
improvement of the aspirant.
Though many such systems have been implemented till date, they have some of the
drawbacks listed below:
● Results provided in the form of a simple score card i.e. no detailed analysis of the
result.
● No track of the previous tests the aspirant has taken i.e. no overall progress
determination.
● Repetition of questions several times for the same aspirant as the system does not
identify each and every person uniquely.
● No flexibility in selection of number of questions.
● No flexibility in selection of amount of time.
● No flexibility in selection of a particular topic or section for the test.
● No flexibility in choosing the level of difficulty.
3. MOTIVATION:
Being college students, we have witnessed that the people having potential are not able
to clear the written examination in placement and certification scenarios duly because of
their negligence towards their weaknesses. It is mainly because they are unaware of the
areas they need to put more efforts in. This is our first and foremost reason to take up this
topic.
Our motivation to work upon this project is that there are rarely any sources that
provide a detailed evaluation of the result and a self-assessment report to help the students
to determine where they stand and how far they need to go (in various sections) and how
they need to proceed to achieve the desired result.
4. OBJECTIVE:
3. Implementation of a system that provides a complete package for aptitude tests including:
● To provide the GUI to conduct the test generated according to the specifications of
the user (level, section/area, time).
● To provide a result card along with the detailed analysis of the result for the user’s
self-assessment.
● To provide proper counselling and ways to improve depending on the analysis of the
test.
● To provide the user with a track of his/her results till date, as a whole.
5. SCOPE:
This examination system and detailed evaluation of the user’s performance can be
extended to other sorts of examinations like MBA, PET, GATE, GRE, GMAT etc.
6. METHODOLOGY:
● This is a Web Application to be implemented on Java platform JDK 1.6.
● The framework taken into account is NetBeans IDE 7.1.
● A database would be maintained and referred to using MySQL 5.1.
● The procedure to map the performance of the candidate in a particular test in terms of
his strengths and weaknesses in various sections/areas and other statistical representations
such as pie charts, bar graphs and line graphs with database values would be implemented
using JFreeChart library in Java Swings.
● JFreeChart’s extensive features include:
1) A consistent and well-documented API, supporting a wide range of chart
types.
2) A flexible design that is easy to extend, and targets both server-side and
client-side applications.
3) Support for many output types, including Swing components, image files
(Including PNG and JPEG), and vector graphics file formats (including
PDF, EPS and SVG);
4) JFreeChart is "open source" or, more specifically, free software.
