enough money in the precinct today, so
your parking is free
On Tuesday, you catch the bus into town.
The smart glass highlights tourist attractions and
shows arrivals and departures at the airport, where
this bus is headed.
As you approach your destination your phone
vibrates to remind you to hop off.
A returning family for holiday, the
beacon at arrival welcomes them back,
suggests a discounted coffee while
waiting for the bus. As they leave they
are messaged about latest shows in the
new SCECEC.
Thursday night is sports training. Arriving at the club your phone connects with a
beacon. Details for Saturday’s game time and location are displayed in the club’s app.
Apparently it’s sausage sizzle week too.
The field is looking nice and green. New in-ground sensors measure
moisture levels, ensuring sprinklers come on when it’s dry and not when
it’s been raining. The sprinklers also receive weather information and
don’t water when rain is predicted.
As you drive past the hospital, your phone alerts you
to on-coming ambulance and suggests an alternate
route.
Friday morning, you stop off to discuss with the developer his latest
DA…and you both walk around his design in virtual reality on site.
The even is also broadcast live to
some community halls in Kenilworth
and other places
On Friday night you attend an event, a
Q&A panel with some visiting
designers.
Smart Wi-Fi in the venue gives you an
interactive menu, including the ability
to respond to polls during the
discussion, and post comments and
questions to the screen.
As you walk to your car
afterwards, the streets
are well lit.
The street lights have sensed
movement from the crowds and
adjusted to full illumination.
The power of course coming from our very
own solar farm. Smart metres allowing for
even more efficiency.
The augmented reality view overlays statistics
for the players you are looking at, along with
social media streams. You tap a button and
speak to tweet support for your team.

  • 4. On Monday, you go shopping. Before driving into Maroochydore, you check on parking availability, live on the app The app is also great for recommending upcoming events in your area, or as your move around the coast

  • 6. Walking into the shopping centre, your arrival is detected by biometrics. A billboard shows how you’d look in a shirt on sale near by. Another reminds you you’ve earned a free coffee.
  • 7. The smart parking knows you’ve spent enough money in the precinct today, so your parking is free
  • 8. On Tuesday, you catch the bus into town. The smart glass highlights tourist attractions and shows arrivals and departures at the airport, where this bus is headed. As you approach your destination your phone vibrates to remind you to hop off.
  • 9. A returning family for holiday, the beacon at arrival welcomes them back, suggests a discounted coffee while waiting for the bus. As they leave they are messaged about latest shows in the new SCECEC.
  • 10. Thursday night is sports training. Arriving at the club your phone connects with a beacon. Details for Saturday’s game time and location are displayed in the club’s app. Apparently it’s sausage sizzle week too. The field is looking nice and green. New in-ground sensors measure moisture levels, ensuring sprinklers come on when it’s dry and not when it’s been raining. The sprinklers also receive weather information and don’t water when rain is predicted.
  • 11. As you drive past the hospital, your phone alerts you to on-coming ambulance and suggests an alternate route.
  • 12. Friday morning, you stop off to discuss with the developer his latest DA…and you both walk around his design in virtual reality on site.

Smart Wi-Fi in the venue gives you an interactive menu, including the ability to respond to polls during the discussion, and post comments and questions to the screen.

  1. Using location and context awareness, this is an augmented reality view on a device. Council field worker might see the assets and sensors identified, the jobs to be done and possibly the location of other nearby crews. A tourist might see the location of the safe swimming area, the tourism info hut, the BBQ and the bus stop.
  2. 1 Zettabyte = 250 billion DVDs or the amount of data that has traversed the Internet since inception 300 Zettabyte = The amount of visial info conveyed from the eyes to the brain of the entire human race in a single year Now reaching a situation where the amount of data coming in to the council every month will start to out strip the total data compiles in the up to 2015 There was more data produced in the world in 2015 than in the previous 5000 years, and that amount is doubling every 2 years! Facebook now has 1.55 billion active monthly users…making it the largest virtual country in the world. Latest predictions for 2020: - Now 75 Billion internet devices (this has grown by 25 Billion in a year!) - Based on trial, and manufacturing delivery announcements there will be 10 million self driving cars

Infrastructure changes: A move from acquiring and maintaining large on premise infrastructure such as servers (300+ virtual servers currently maintained by ICTS staff), to a cloud based architecture. This will provide more mobile access, agility and more options for the business. A move from acquiring desktop computers to smart devices which will enable improved mobility of the workforce and cost reductions. (there are currently 1350 mobile devices, 1487 PCs and 349 laptops) Changes to our communications network such as Wi-Fi, faster access to data in the cloud, and architecture changes to support Smart Cities development. Virtual desktops will mean access to our applications from anywhere on any devices. Consolidation of data centres and the establishment of a Hospice environment for legacy systems (transition from 2 to 1 and then possibly no on-premise Data Centres) A move away from relying on premise, perimeter-based security to application, and data specific security. Software/Applications Changes: Cloud based software rather than on premise installs for all Corporate and Line of Business Applications. Development of contemporary integration architecture (service bus) which will reduce the costs associated with changing software Moving away from large upfront capital purchases to operational subscription based solutions. The ability to only pay for the parts of the application we need rather than the whole system. Implementation of an Identity and Access Management System to enable easy access to all cloud and on premise systems from any device and from anywhere. Decrease internal support requirements and focus on operational improvements with the business such as automation. Workforce changes: In general there will be a move from hands on technical tasks and skills to more value added requirements. Current resources focused on maintain large on premise software will be able to be dedicated to more value add activities such as improving the overall end to end business solutions. Development of advanced analytics and visualisation capability - move from maintaining data to advanced data analysis - to improve business decision making The move from hands on maintenance of technical infrastructure to cloud architecture and improved mobile workforce solutions. Digital business consultancy capability to be increased to ensure organisation is positioned to take advantage of technical opportunities and transform services.
