Using social media for creating awareness about road safety
1. Using social media for creating awareness about road safety
Social media and social media news, in a few years only have thump all the spheres of our life,
nothing has been left untouched. However, it is very close to the teenagers, who is generally
connected with these all the day. For any information that you want to pass to the teenagers,
nothing can be better than social media, and this is what the Department of Motor vehicles has
understood.
At the age of 16-17 year teenager starts driving without understanding the importance of road
safety and rules. Now DMV has taken the initiative of making the teenagers aware of the fact that
by following road safety they can actually mutilate themselves or someone else lives.
There are many cases that happen in a year where numbers of people lose their life because of
the mistake of the driver, and in some cases accident come out to be fatal for the driver as well.
Thus, it is important to teach the importance of safe driving once teenagers start their driving. In
today’s world to make teenagers aware nothing can be better than social media.
Social media is now being used by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) as a way to make
teenagers aware of the importance and ways of safe driving.
Through their special center for teens, Teen Safe Driving, DMV has come up with the Facebook
page and a YouTube video channel as well. The main aim of this is to provide information for the
16-17 year old drivers, about safe driving and safety issues.
2. To motivate the students of high school to take the path of safe driving and follow the safety rules,
on YouTube DMV has put the video of the students of high school who won the DMV’s annual
statewide teen safe driving video contest. Apart from Facebook and YouTube, twitter is also used
by DMV to circulate teen driving messages and other updates related to the DMV services for the
public.
This idea is going very well as teenagers are actually connecting with it. According to DMV
Commissioner Melody A. Currey, “More and more people, especially teenagers, turn to these
popular social media sites for information and to communicate with each other,”
