2. Module descriptions
2.1 Foundation module
Module aims
The Foundation Module aims to build competencies in various functional areas to prepare students for
their business studies. Students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in e.g. Mathematics,
Computing and Statistics to form a strong pillar for their business calculations and planning. The
economic subjects (e.g. Micro and Macroeconomics, Finances) help students understand what
economy is about. The module lays an emphasis on helping students to improve their communication
skills and develop their study and research skills which form an important building stone of their
further studies. The Foundation Module is rigorous, academically demanding and designed specially to
ensure that international students and Hungarian nationals gain the skills and knowledge to succeed
in obtaining their high-quality degree.
2.2 Business foundation module
Module aims
The role of the Business Module is to build competencies in various business areas. This module is the
module that gives students the basic economic and business skills; students will acquire knowledge
and skills in the field of a number of areas (e.g. Business Economics, Marketing, Accounting) that
‘make an economist an economist’. By completing the module students will understand the way a
firm operates and they will possess the knowledge and skills to maintain functional operations in an
enterprise. The module provides them with practical business knowledge and a range of skills that will
better equip them for professional business life.
2.3 International business module
Module aims
The International Business Module teaches students management issues and business disciplines
from an international perspective. The module provides students with the knowledge and skills that
make them international business specialists. Through a variety of subjects (e.g. Global Economy and
International Trade, International Business Law, International Marketing, International Forwarding
and Logistics) students will understand the international economic and business environment of
international business operations. Students will acquire special skills that will enable them to conduct
and administer business operations in an international environment.
6. 2.4 Placement
In the course of their studies students will deepen their business knowledge and develop their skills
on a supervised work placement in industry, commerce or public administration. This part of the
programme places students in employment in an appropriate international business environment for
the overall duration of 12 weeks. Typically students would work at an internationally active company,
a multinational enterprise or a public administration office that deals with European or international
business affairs. It is also possible to spend the placement outside of Hungary. The major aims of the
placement module is to provide students with an understanding of the world of work, to develop their
skills in a real business environment, to assist in students’ decision of what type of career they might
want in the future, and to improve their employability.
