  8. 8. 28 One of the teachers of the law cameand heard them debating. Noticing thatJesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
  9. 9. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all yourstrength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these.”

  12. 12. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They willcondemn him to death and will hand him overto the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”
  13. 13. 35 Then James and John, the sons ofZebedee, came to Jesus. “Teacher,” theysaid, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
  14. 14. 36 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked.37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”
  15. 15. 36 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked.37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”

  17. 17. Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cupI drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, 40 but to sit at my rightor left is not for me to grant. These placesbelong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
  18. 18. 41 When the ten heard about this, theybecame indignant with James and John.
  19. 19. 42 Jesus called them together and said, “Youknow that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be yourservant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
