Limitations Of Science
By Ofori Boateng
Scientific Questions
Having answers for some scientific questions many times might not be so easy,
this is the reason why these questions have be as more specific and accurate
as possible to have good answers.
So to have accurate answers to our questions we should:
● think about the way a question can be tested to be answered
● have a good understanding of the topic which is being discussed
● have a specific and accurate questions (1)
Science Has Limits
● Science is powerful and in years
it has generated knowledge that
allow us to fly from country to
country, to cure us from diseases
or to protect our environment.
● Science has been able to find
answers for many theories, even
though there are still that are still
being assessed, and many
others for which an answer may
never be found.
Therefore science does not have the
answers for everything, and in few
words we can say that IT HAS
LIMITS. (1)
Questions Which Science Can Answer
When we talk about questions that science can
answer we mean the questions that science is
currently answering, these are factual questions
about the natural world.
Answers can be given by making experiments
that will give evidence to a specific hypothesis.
By this science can state whether a
hypothesis/theory is right or wrong. So to
summarise, science can only answer testable
questions.
Some of these questions can be:
● Can the speed of sound be achieved?
● Is the earth flat?
These are questions that science is currently
answering, therefore this means that tests or
experiments have been done already to give
evidence. (1)
Is The Earth Flat?
The Earth is not flat, and this is for sure, test
have shown that instead the actual shape of
Earth is round.
Evidences show that the Earth is a sphere with a
bulge around the equator.
Evidences:
● Having access to the space nowadays it is
easy to prove that the Earth is round, and
this can be done by observing it from a
certain distance
● Every picture of the Earth shows a round
shape, and the only geometric shape that
looks like a circle is actually a sphere.
● Evidence can also be seen from the
ground and this phenomenon occurs every
lunar eclipse. (2)
Questions That Science Is Currently
Addressing
By questions that science is currently addressing
we mean questions that science is trying to
answer not, but yet still does not have an answer
for.
Some of these questions can be:
● Is there a cure for ebola?
● Is there accessible water on other planets?
● Are we alone in the Universe?
These are all questions that science is currently
trying to answer, this means that scientists are
trying to carry out tests that will eventually give
an answer to all this questions, therefore an
answer cannot be given and nothing can be
confirmed (1)
Is There A Cure For Ebola?
At the moment there is no evidence to show that there is a cure for this strong
virus.
However scientists through researches are trying to find a new vaccine that may
prevent from the virus. So can Ebola be cures?
For the moment there are no proven treatments that can kill the ebola virus, and
there is also no vaccine that can prevent rom it infection..
However once a person is infected by this virus and the symptoms start to develop healthcare providers
can offer supportive care which includes:
● Good nursing care
● Antibiotics to prevent secondary infections
● oxygen and devices to help breathing
So as said previously this is a type of question that science is currently addressing, there is not an answer
yet, but scientists are still working on it. (3)
Questions That Science Will Never Be Able To
These are the real limitations of science, questions
that cannot be answered.
Some of these questions might be:
● Which flower look better?
● What is good or what is bad?
● Does God exist?
● What is there after death?
All these questions cannot be answered by science,
due to the fact that they are non-testable questions
(4)
Science cannot answer questions:
● About the value of something
● About morality
● About supernatural things
Science simple will never answer these questions
because the cannot be tested, or experiments
cannot be done to show evidence. (5)
Answer
Is There Life After Death?
As already said this is a type of question that science will be never
able to answer.
This might be a really important questions but that science can’t
answer not being testable.
Science is also not able to give an answer to supernatural facts,
because they go beyond the field of nature and science. (6)
Therefore science is not able to study or test these facts or events,
because these can only be answered by personal matter such as:
● Faith
● Spirituality
● Traditions
Conclusion
● To conclude this presentation has show that
science does not give an answer to every question.
Therefore it has limitations.
● However science also gives answer and evidence
to many things through tests and experiments.
These experiments and tests the prove a specific
theory or hypothesis right or wrong.
● Science also have questions that is currently
addressing to. These are questions that do not have
an answer yet, but studies are researches are being
made to give and answer.
