ICT role in 21st century education and it's challenges.
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
1. Q2. How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
2. When we started off with the idea, of our opening
sequence street life, we wanted to represent differences
and similarities through the different social classes, we
wanted to show that we as a society go through events in
our lives that effects everybody not just one person. At
the end I believe with our media product we achieved
this.
3. Our media product represents different ethnicities.
Mainly Black and White. We decided to choose
people of different races to feature in our media
product as we didn’t want to be stereotypical as
usually gangs are shown to be black people only and
we wanted to show that its not only black people
that are involved with the gang life.
4. GANGS
Our media product represents a gang. As the images show
you, gangs come in very different shapes, sizes and cultures.
You will find them wherever you go. We chose to represent
Gangs in our media product, as typically in any urban drama
film you would come across one, or they would be in rivals
with another gang. We wanted to point out that gang life is
still relevant today, we wanted our media product to show
what happens in reality, and to make people realise that
events like one that takes place in our media product has
not stopped occurring.
5. We didn’t portray any females in our media product; reasons
why we decided not to do this is because looking at our similar
media products, the females usually had more of a laid back
approach usually portrayed to be the males ‘baby momma’ or
‘wifey’. We decided that we didn’t want to use these
conventions as it didn’t fit in with the our plot. When it came to
films in this genre, it was the males that had the lead role, it
was them that was stereotypically involved with drugs, gangs,
violence, theft the list goes on.. Roles like this you wouldn’t be
able to imagine a female playing. So an all male cast was a very
good decision to make.
6. THE DEPRIVED
Our media product, represents deprived
people, who have given up state education to
pursue other ‘careers’ such as drug dealing etc.
This is shown through the mise-en-scene
through the clothing, and dialect. If he was
educated he wouldn’t be wearing baggy jeans
with his boxers hanging out? Would he. The
mise-en-scene through our media product
shows this.
7. Every film, will no doubtbly, feature music. Especially
in urban drama films, it helps set out the location, for
example in kidulthood, they play krept and
konan, who are grime artists from london. Music sets
the scene, in any film, it brings out emotions and in
our media product it helps triggers scene our chase
scene. Typically you’d associate artists such as Jay-
Z, Skepta, Maxsta with people who live in deprived
areas, they look to artists as inspiration and in most
urban films you see them, spitting bars trying to be the
next big thing. Music gives them hope.
