2. What are ancillary
products?
They are additional media texts that
work together to act as promotional
material for an artist which include…
CD covers, magazines, websites,
billboard posters ect…
For our ancillary product we will be
creating a digipack along with a
magazine advertisement.
3. What is the purpose of
them?
The main aim is to promote the song and
the artist. Even though sales are
decreasing they are still used for visual
branding, and a way to categories the
artists different stages of their career.
Digipaks also tend to offer fans: Bonus
tracks and art.
The ancillary products are an important
aspect for the industry, and the artist as it is
a way to create awareness, and more
money by saturating a market to enhance
sales.
4. How do ancillary products work
alongside the music video?
They make visual links by using a
recurring theme to establish the genre of
music.
What are codes and conventions?
They are expectations of different media
products. They are ‘rules’ that govern
the way a media text is constructed so
that it looks a certain way and contains
particular content.
5. These ‘rules’ create
expectations for different
products
1. Audiences are familiar with different
codes and conventions for different
products.
2. Audiences tend to base their tastes on
the use of different codes and
conventions.
3. Audiences need to be able to identify
similar products through the use of
codes and conventions.
6. I am analyzing the codes and conventions
of ancillary work, because my final
digipak and magazine advert needs to
link to my music video. Plus in my
evaluation I need to look at how well my
own work compares with that of other
‘real’ media in my evaluation. Which I
will also include aspects of during my A2
media exam.
