4. Alaska
!
The United States Government in 1867 bought the 49th
state,!
twice the size of Texas, for two cents an acre from the
Russian Empire, who feared that it could be seized by
Britain if war were to break out. The territory officially
became part of the United States on January 3rd of 1959
under the Eisenhower Administration. If you have ever been
to the great state of Alaska, then you would know that it is
literally like taking a step back in time. With just 1.2 persons
per square mile you are truly in complete touch with the
good Lord’s work. Tremendous mountains with snow
capped tips, astonishing rolling green valleys as far as the
eye can see, a plethora of the most startling plant life on the
Earth, an astronomical wonder of breathtaking lights in the
sky that indicate you are far away from human
intervention… The rivers wind their way throughout the
mystic grounds carrying large populations every summer of
big, fat, healthy salmon who travel miles up river to spawn.
The trout don’t know any better than to annihilate a poorly
drifted dry fly pattern or in most cases a mouse pattern. !
There are a ton of Alaskan lodges and outfitters claiming to
be the best, however, only a select few actually are. Here at
the Fish Hawk we have been and sent past clients to these
select few amazing lodges. Some of our clients had the
privilege of fishing waters that have never even been fished
before. All of them had more than one incredible story to
tell.

10. Argentina
In the year of 1519, explorer Juan Dìas de Solis discovered
modern day Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and the
Southern Bolivian region. The Spaniards gained control of
the area and created a massive colony called the
Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata. Not until the early 1800’s
did Argentina finally claim their independence from Spain.
Today, Argentina is still fighting relations with Britain to
gain control of vast territories that include the ocean as far
as Antarctica and the islands that surround them. !
Anglers from around the world venture to Argentina to
experience the absolutely magnificent trout fishing in the
southern region of the country. This area, known as

tarpon too. !

Fly-fishing in Chile will give you the amazing chance to
fish the upper Patagonian region, something that only a
select few can say they’ve experienced.
Patagonia Chile Fly Fishing
29. Estancia Del Zorro
In the miserable and gloomy winters in the northern
hemisphere, pack up your gear and head south to
gorgeous Chilean Patagonia. Estancia del Zorro is
separated from fast-paced civilization in a mountain
range known as the Coyhaique Alto mountain range
near the Chilean-Argentina border. Anglers will be
paired with a guide whom, together with one other
angler, will explore the gorgeous water of the Chilean
Patagonias. !
There are two rivers that clients will target including a
fifteen mile spring creek that holds up to twelve pound,
aggressive brown trout. The really neat feature about
this lodge is that anglers will fish on the Chilean side as
well as the Argentina side of the border. A lot of the
waters that the clients will fish are very private and see
extremely little angling pressure. The trout are wild and
they are huge. !
As far as accommodations go, twelve guests stay at
Estancia del Zorro a week in a beautifully designed
lodge. In the main building, anglers can feast on
Chilean dishes in the dining room. Guests will also
reside in beautiful rooms overlooking large fields and
rolling mountains (pictured below). !
Each of the guides have four or more years experience
fly-fishing the streams around the lodge. Dry-fly fishers
will have the opportunity to sight cast to rising trout
that go up to 32 inches in length. As they put it, you
might think you are lost in the wild west of days gone.!

30. Nomad of the Seas
This is probably the most unique fly-fishing
operation in the world. Nomad of the Seas focuses
on exploring the Chilean Patagonian range by air,
land, and sea. It was chosen by Forbes as one of the
top ten best fly-fishing operations in the world, and
for good reason! Anglers will stay on a state-of-the-
art yacht equipped with a few helicopters and small
boats. Nomad will fly anglers out to the most remote
trout streams that Patagonia has to offer. Literally
there is no other way to reach these places without
flying into them. You will experience fishing for large
and wild trout that have never seen a human in their
lives. !
Some of the more adventurous anglers who are
willing to push the limits and travel deep into the
mountains will fish areas most likely never fished
before. !
As far as accommodations on the super yacht go,
guests will be served by a professional chef with
years of experience in delivering the tastes of Chile.
Choose from the best wines Chile has to offer, hand
selected from various vineyards around the country.
There is a sauna and massage table, as well as a
fully stocked bar. !
Rooms are extremely luxurious and feature their own
private bathroom. This trip has something for
everyone, as they also focus on Patagonia skiing,
wildlife adventures and more. Wake up to new and
fantastic scenery every morning, eagerly waiting to
fish a new area never truly seen before.

31. Tierra del Fuego Lodge
Tierra del Fuego is a chain of islands, also known as
an archipelago, off the southernmost tip of South
America. This area is the equivalent to the Jurassic
Lake rainbow trout; however, this time we are dealing
with enormous sea run browns. Tierra del Fuego
Lodge is located on the Chilean side of Tierra del
Fuego. The lodge has access to a wide variety of
very diverse fisheries. Not only can you catch sea
run brown trout, but you’ll also get the chance to
focus in on brookies, steelhead, and rainbow trout! !
Because these fish are sea run, they can be
extremely aggressive. Many times you can fish
mouse patterns and see massive brown trout
absolutely unchain your fly. !
Guests will be able to fish rivers that feed the Pacific
Ocean, lakes, and over thirty miles of creeks. This
allows the lodge to rest a lot of prime fishing water
for weeks, thus making it an extremely low pressured
area. !
The lodge itself features two log cabins designed for
two guests each as well as recently new duplex that
is made for four more guests. The lodge consists of
the kitchen, dining room, and a fully stocked bar in
the lounge area. There is also a well stocked fly tying
table for your enjoyment.!
If you have dreamed of catching a trout on meth,
then Tierra del Fuego Lodge is right down your alley.

32. Kamchatka
Kamchatka is a peninsula located in northeastern
Russia. It is out in the middle of nowhere and truly
serves as the land before time. This is the closest place
you will get to fishing land that has literally been
untouched by humans. !
Some compare Alaska to Kamchatka, but they consider
it the “old Alaska,” what it was hundreds of years ago. If
you’re a steelhead junkie, then fly-fishing the
Kamchatka Peninsula is a must experience trip before
you die. Not only is the steelhead fishing unparalleled,
but the trout fishing is out of this world. !
Kamchatka is a summer destination, as it can reach
world record lows in the winter. You will have the
opportunity to fish in areas only seen by a handful of
human eyes in its lifetime. The amount of fish you will
get hooked on is absolutely incredible, and the Russian
guides insist on a shot of vodka after every fish to
celebrate— do not try to keep up with them!
Kamchatka Steelhead Project
33. Ozernaya River Camp
Disconnected from the rest of Earth in eastern
Russia, fly-fishers know the Kamchatka region as
“Old Alaska.” At Ozernaya River Camp anglers will
have the honor to fly-fish to the most beautiful
rainbow trout on the planet. There season runs from
mid-July all the way up to the first week of September
and they only accommodate ten anglers per week.
Certain times of the year guests can fish for all five
species of salmon. This is one-hundred percent a
hardcore fly-fishing destination. I would not bring
your spouse or children if they are looking for other
activities other than fly-fishing. !
For those who do make the travel to Ozernaya River
Camp, they will fly-fish in the most remote area in the
world. Experience catching massive rainbow trout on
mouse patterns behind some of the most
breathtaking scenery known to man. We can’t make
this up, the fishing is out of this world. !
Anglers will reside in triangular shaped huts
(pictured) with all of the necessary accommodations
to comfortably live for your stay. You will have fresh,
hearty meals every single day prepared by either your
guide or the staff. !
This is not for the faint-hearted, but for those who
want to push their limits and discover the best

Kamchatka as is the Ozernaya River Camp. You
could compare the Two Yurt River to, well, not
anything off the top of my head! It is in a class of its
own, totally separated from society for many a mile.
The rainbow trout that call the Two Yurt River their
home most likely have never seen a human, a lure, or
a fly. They are literally some of the biggest but least
pressured fish on Earth. !
Guests will float over fifty miles worth of river,
stopping to stay at different fixed-cabin placements
each evening. The guides will prepare your meals as
well as a limited supply of alcoholic beverages.!

35. Mexico
In 1519, Spanish forces led by conquistador Hernando
Cortés conquered modern day Mexico. Three hundred years
later the Mexicans would gain their independence from
Spain. They would lose a lot of land to the United States,
including the state of Texas in the Mexican-American War. !
Mexico and the Yucatan can offer some unrivaled fly-fishing
for inshore and offshore gamefish species. Next to Belize,
Mexico is one of the best places to try for an inshore grand
slam (tarpon, bonefish, permit). !
There are a ton of different lodges that offer excellent shots
at all species. Our staff has been all throughout Mexico and
can point you in the right direction. So what are you waiting

Fly-fishing for baby tarpon is a blast and there is no
better place to do it than Campeche, Mexico. The
Campeche Tarpon Club is a guide service that
specifically targets all of the baby tarpon around the
Campeche area. They are hand selected, all natives,
and have an extensive knowledge on fly-fishing and
the tarpon in the area. !
The baby tarpon in the area average between five and
twenty pounds and are all under forty pounds. By the
end of your stay, you’ll be stupid tired of jumping and
catching so many tarpon. !
Campeche Tarpon Club recommends several places
to stay including Hotel OceanView and Hotel
Castlemar.!
Hotel Castlemar was built in the late 1800’s as an
army barracks before being converted to
Campeche’s first hotel. It is conveniently located

one of the most productive saltwater fishing areas
for permit, tarpon, bonefish and more on the planet.
It is in a remote area and one of the best kept
secrets in all of fly-fishing. The lodge itself is very
