5. This episode reveals how different Tom and Huckleberry really are. Huckleberry appears to be a practical and sensible boy who does not take unnecessary risks. Tom on the other hand is only concerned with doing things that make him seem to be bold and courageous. No doubt Tom will brag about how he played a trick on Jim and how he had been brave enough to sneak into the house and get the candles. It must be remembered that these boys are not in any real danger. If they are caught they might receive minor punishment so all of Tom’s bravery is not really impressive after all. Huckleberry does not want be caught because he is someone who wishes to avoid trouble.
