When we sum up what all Vistage members tells us about their job they describe their top 3 challenges (how do these relate to your experience and your notes on the PAS). Growing Revenue and Profits Staying focused on Strategic Issues Developing Key People Overcoming these challenges is sometimes described as being like “crossing a desert dragging a ball and chain”.
Vistage helps CEOs shed that Ball and Chain so you can start your climb to that next level. By putting all these parts together you can not only see where you are going but you can climb to the top and stay there in until it time for that next climb. As you experience Vistage this week you will start to shed your Ball and Chain and make your own climb to the next level. You are going to experience each of the 4 elements so that you can see yourself as a Vistage member and feel what being at that next level would be like. To get you to the next level Vistage helps you build the most secure ladder possible - a 4 legged ladder that will allow you to go step by step to your goal. The four legs of the ladder Group Meetings, Expert Resource Speakers, “The Vistage Gateway” and Individual 121Coaching provide the infrastructure for that climb up those 3 critical steps to the next level and your goal - Get Better Ladder Picture??? Step 1 – (becoming) Better Leaders Step 2 – (making) Better Decisions Step 3 – (getting) Better Results What do Steve and the other members have to say about Step 1 becoming a Better Leader video – Leaders 50 sec
What do Better Results look once you have become a better leader and given the ultimate Executive Decision-Making machine (your Vistage membership) a seat at your leadership table? Well the members tell us there are three ways to look at Better Results First For Yourself - Becoming a Better Leader - as measured by GREATER CONFIDENCE --77% Feel better about their role as CEO than ever before GREATER COMPETENCE-- 75% Feel they can lead company to new levels of performance GREATER INFLUENCE-- 70% Increase their ability to inspire others
2 nd On your issues and Decisions regarding those issues 82 % of members state that they have improved their decision-making effectiveness with Vistage 72% say that they now feel empowered to go implement decisions on tough issues
3 rd On your business - Results Members grow, on average, at more than twice the percentage growth rate after they have joined Vistage. Given the total Vistage organization of over 12500 members that is about an extra $1billion in profits per year ($80k Per Member if you divide) Now I have told you what the research says, but now lets hear again from Luis and the other members regarding the results they got in real life. Results video 89
The 2 nd leg of the ladder is embedded in the one-day executive session 8 of the 12 meetings a year. Those 8 half the day sections are reserved for expert resource speakers. These speakers are some of the same ones that you hear speaking to thousands and for Vistage they come to your group meetings in a room about this size (NGB) with you and your 12 to 15 group members. They deliver workshops on subjects your Chair has selected based on your needs and goals. These speakers are experts on areas like: leadership, finance, sales, marketing, HR, health, stress management, hiring, etc. The workshop engages you in the process and you become part of the content. You will score each speaker based on the takeaway value for you and your business in other words what did this speaker help get you to the next step. With 2,000 speakers, VISTAGE has the largest speaker’s bureau in the US and it constantly growing and changing based on members feedback. Take out your PAS and write down “Listen to Speaker CD” before 121.
The way you get members up that ladder to that leader step is to have 4 strong legs to the ladder. The 1 st leg of the ladder is the monthly One day group session. Your Vistage group is (about the same size as we are today) i.e. is composed of 12 to 16 other successful CEOs who share their knowledge in a safe environment (no competitors, significant vendors or vendees and confidential (ask to affirm if chair did not)) with one mission and that is to help each other move to the next step . Part of that ultimate decision making machine that groups use to move to Step 2 – (Better Decisions) is going to be part of your experience in a few minutes when (fill in Chair's name) leads you through that “group decision process” which will use this group to help make a better decision for one of you volunteers. Here is what it is Luis and the members say about better decisions (video decisions) 43 sec
The 4 th and final leg of the ladder is the one that can’t experience today. Those of you who are interested and appear to qualified can experience this later this week with (chair name). This is your 2 hour 121 with your Vistage Group Chair. The Chair will help you gain clarity on your toughest decisions, prepare to bring an issue to the group and will hold you accountable for moving to the next level. The way 121s work is you have a 3 part agenda . You will go over the things you have been working on before (issues, accountability, growth, etc – for you speaker CD, “The Vistage Gateway”, etc), we will work on whatever the most important thing in your world is today (this week that will be us learning more about each other and how you fit Vistage and how Vistage fits you). Lastly the focus turns to what needs to be done next – those actions to get you to your goals or as Vistage would say the 3 rd step on our ladder – Better Results
The 3rd leg of the ladder is when you walk through “The VISTAGE Gateway” where you gain access to a globally created online library of best practices, a database of audio and video content from top business experts, notices of Regional and international Vistage conferences, special interest chat rooms and the rest of the worldwide Vistage member community – all 12,500 of them as needed. Take out your PAS and write down www.Vistage.com We may want a story here about the gateway.
8.30 / 1.00 Take out your PAS and write 1 line to describe 2 or 3 significant decisions you need to make. (significant is at least $100k or worth the time of a room full of really smart people. Pass the top copy of the 3 decisions to the chair Explain the decision process ( from above while the chair has time to find the right 2 issues to consider processing) In addition to the process explain That normally this would go for whatever time was needed and today we have 30 minutes That this would normally be recorded & the person with the issue would leave with a CD That the member with the decision would be held accountable for whatever they committed to after the process That when you ask clarifying questions you don’t embed an answer That when you receive input from the group you can say 2 things – THANK YOU Turn the group to the chair when they are ready 8.40 / 1.10
