2. Through the last weeks I was researching and analysing the magazines to find out what
my target audience would like to see in the Rock music magazine. The questionnaire and
it analysis bring me to the point where I was able to create the first drafts of my
magazine.
This was the first draft of my front cover for the magazine. I was
quiet satisfied with this draft, however there was few points I had
to deal with to make the cover more interesting and more suitable
for my target audience (teenagers).
First of all the title of the magazine should be changed. From my
experience from the preliminary task I know that the title has a big
impact on the magazine, and it is its hallmark. ‘All Ages’ would be
a great name for the magazine only if the contents would appeal
to all of the ages; teenagers as well as the adults. So the title had
to be changed My magazine would be mostly about bands
nowadays and its target is only the teenagers and young adults.
Other issue was that the main image include only 2 people
whereas there is 3 members of ‘Paramore’.
The good sides of it are that I have included free posters and CD what will attract more
people. In my opinion this magazine relates to ‘Kerrang!’ magazine a lot. Their target
audience is same as mine and their magazine is in the similar price; it is approachable for the
target audience. Their magazine also inspired me to include free posters and CD. I have quiet
clear main cover line which inform
3. As well as creating the front cover I had to create draft of the
contents page. On this page I have included pictures to show how
the pictures made by me will be spread around the page when I will
take pictures myself and to the final piece of work; the magazine.
On this page I have explained the competition I have mentioned on
the cover. I got that idea from the questionnaire because a lot of
people wanted to see a competition in the magazine. They will be
really attracted by this as this is opportunity for them to get a ticket
for free. From my questionnaire I also found that people do not
wish to see many text on the contents page, this is why I have laid
out my page in this way to make sure that it looks like there was
almost the same amount of text and pictures.
On this page I have included the article
about ‘Paramore’ which I have written
myself. The article is interesting and I hope
people wont get bored by reading it. I also
showed the word tour of Paramore but in
slightly different way that we can observe
in the magazines. I have also included
information of the type of the font. The
layout is really clear and everything is very
easy to understand.
4. While doing the self-assessment I have pointed out all the
bad features of all of the drafts. As I have mentioned
while analysing the front cover draft this one had the
most to improve. That’s why I have created second draft
to make sure everything is set up as it should and all the
points made in self-assessment are covered.
The title has changed from ‘All ages’ to ‘BASS’. I have
chosen this title as it links back to the contents of the
magazine which is music.
Bass is a type of guitar so it also
has meaning. I have also re-
drawn the picture that now it
present all the members.
I have taken away the picture of
the CD and Posters as I think
there is already a lot going on
on the page so another pictures and text will make it look even
more messy and unorganized. I have left the information that
the posters and CD are attached to the magazine so it is still very
attractive for the target audience.
5. Comparing already existing college magazines with mine I can see some
similarities and differences.
Both of the covers have only one main picture as I do. However on the
picture they have only one person and I will have 3 people; members of
the band. The magazines also has more of the writing that I plan to
include. They also do not have the main cover line which I am planning to
place on my front cover.
The background of my front cover will be slightly different than the
background of the fist magazine shown. It will be more similar to the
second one.
