Use total internal reflection to keep a light
ray trapped within the denser glass of the
center of a composite cylindrical glass fiber,
the core.
6. Itis as if light rays are guided down the
core of the fiber in a zigzag path by a
succession of total internal reflections at the
boundary between the core glass and the
less dense glass surrounding it, the cladding.

2. High volumes of any kind of data, text, graphic,
sound/voice and video carriage made possible,
3. Excellent quality of output as compared to input
with use of optical communication,
9. 4. once installed successfully, subsequent only
negligible maintenance required thereby reducing
breakdown/shutdown periods and cycles.
5. Carriage of data over large terrestrial distances
became possible,
6. Carriage of data without visible medium made
possible and lot more.
10. The only disadvantage is high installation
cost but since such installations are made
over large distances and accrued revenue is
very large, this high initial investment does
not matter much.
