How to prepare for a Gulf Job Interview and Middle East Job Interview
Congratulations! Now that you have been invited for job interviews, you need to keep in mind
few important things which could change your life forever. Read below how to prepare
effectively for your job interview.
1) Read and re-read your resume – Read your resume again and again and make sure you
can explain each word you’ve written over there. Generally the interviewer would ask to
explain your resume. So make sure you can explain everything written on your resume.
Never manipulate your resume.
2) Understand the Job Description –This is very critical and would help you avoid giving
blank looks at the interviewer. Understanding the job description would help your
structure your answers and suitability for the job. Ask the recruiter to send you the Job
Description if they haven’t sent one. Some positions would not have JDs but ask the
recruiter to at least narrate to you.
3) Know your interviewer – It’s very important to know who your interviewer is. Even if
the recruiter forgets to tell you who the interviewer is, you make sure you ask for
his/her name. Once you know the name, one of the best ways to understand the
interviewer is by checking his/her LinkedIn profile. Google the interviewers’ name,
read the blogs or articles of any written by him/her.

4) Know the company – In today’s internet age, every company has a website. This is a
great leverage for the candidate. You get to know about the company, history of the
company, recent developments, about the kind of work they do, about their culture (at
least in paper!), what kind of people are they looking to hire etc. All these data helps you
to prepare well for the interview.
2. 5) What skills are they expecting from me – You may have experience in five different
industries (ex; hr admin, back-end, operations, receptionist) or sectors but this specific
interview would be for a job that would require only one or two (ex: HR and admin) of
your skills. So understand what the interviewer is expecting from you and prepare
accordingly to emphasize your experience more on those areas. Another aspect to this is
some jobs require excellent communication skills, presentation skills or negotiation
skills. So precisely understand what they are looking for and prepare yourself.
6) Assume interviewers questions – If you do not assume what the interviewer would ask
you, you aren’t doing justice to your interview preparation. Fair assumptions would be
questions on your educational background, past experiences and projects, why would
you want to leave your current job, are you willing to relocate etc. Read our blog on 50
common interview questions.
7) Try a mock-interview – This would help you to identity the gaps be it communication,
articulation, or body language. Make a note of areas of improvement and work on it.
This would help you be much closer to being perfect in the real interview.
8) Understand the route to interview location – Ask the recruiter to send the route map to
the interview location, google it and make sure you know your way to reach there. Start
15 minutes early to avoid surprises on the way.

9) Print out of interview confirmation and resume – Take a print out of your interview
confirmation and resume. To be on the safe side, tale 2 copies of each of these
documents. Carry your ID card: Carry a government issued ID card with you. This
would be required at the security or while filling the application forms.
10) Arrange your documents in order – Neatly arrange your documents in order – your
educational, work experience and all other relevant certificates. Carry few passport size
professional photographs as well. Carry a pen and the contact number of the recruiter
too.
11) Prepare questions to ask the interviewer – While you would be interviewed all way
long, prepare some questions to ask the interviewer too. Questions like ‘What is the
amount of travel required, will I have to work extended hours, how much of training
would be given, the career path of the company, promotion and evaluation criteria,
