  • 1. The Accomplishments of Melvil Dewey
    A short history of a great librarian
  • 2. 1851: Dewey is born in Adams Center, NY. He will go on to be know as the Father of Librarianship.
  • 3. 1876: Dewey created the revolutionary Dewey Decimal System while he worked as a librarian at Amherst College

  • 4. 1887: Dewey directed the nation’s first library school at Columbia College

  • 5. 1895: Dewey founded the Lake Placid Club in Lake Placid, NY. Here Dewey worked on bringing the Olympic Games to Lake Placid

  • 6. 1931: Dewey passes away after a lifetime of accomplishments.
