1. Dementia Awareness Week in Tameside
18-22 May
Let’s AALLLL be aware
Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, Age UK Tameside,
Alzheimer’s Society Stockport and District and New Charter are
working together to ensure our community is dementia aware.
During Dementia Awareness Week, a range of events are being
held across Tameside to reach all sections of our community,
including all ages and cultures.
Come along to an event near you to find out more about
dementia, see how you can become a Dementia Friend and
hear about local support provided to those affected. Or contact
the New Charter Housing Trust Group sheltered scheme in your
area to see what’s happening in your neighbourhood.

It is estimated that dementia will affect more than 1 million people by 2025.
Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with dementia.

‘An Afternoon at
Elsie’s House’
This short drama will be
performed for local schools,
encouraging children to talk to
their families about dementia.
Performances are open to the
public from 1:30 – 3:30 along
with the opportunity to make
a Memory Box at Age UK
Tameside’s Independent
Living Centre, 131 Katherine
Street, Ashton.

BME and Bangladeshi
Community Dementia
Aware Drop-in
Information and
Advice Sessions
1:00 – 4:00 at The
Bangladeshi Community
Centre, Chapel Street, Hyde.
Drop-in sessions, information
and advice and carers support
will be provided to our local
BME communities, with
translators on hand to answer
questions.
Age UK Tameside
Reminiscence Disco
With music from throughout
the decades, you’ll enjoy
dancing, sing-alongs and
afternoon tea at Age UK
Tameside’s Independent
Living Centre, 131 Katherine
Street, Ashton. Attendees are
encouraged to come dressed
in the style of their favourite
decade.
The event is FREE to attend,
from 1:30 – 4:30. Information
and advice will also be
available from a range of
services throughout Tameside
as well as a raffle and other
prizes and activities.
