2. What is coordination?
 Coordination is the joining of two closely
related sentences.
RELATED
SENTENCES Roy quit his job. He got a new
one.
JOINED Roy quit his job, and he got a
new one.

3. You can join sentences in the following ways. (See
your textbook for more details and examples.)
 Use a comma and a coordinating
conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so): I
like pizza, but I try not to eat too much of it.
 Use a semicolon (;): Please don’t pinch the baby;
he’ll cry.
 Use a semicolon and a conjunctive adverb
(like afterward, also, as a result, in addition, then, or
therefore): I ate too much pizza; as a result, I felt ill.
