When we want to make a question , we have  to look to the sentences & decide… What we want to ask about it   &  if...    There is a helping verb There isn’t a helping verb And the tense.    December 7, 2010 prepared: Amani                                5
So… Robin Hood saw a very big man, much more than two meters tall, and he had a strong quarterstaff.  As  prince Edward come in through the door, Tom, the pauper, ran to him. I write and Safa speaks. Sentences with helping verbs Helping Verbs are: am – is – are – was – were – have – has – had – will – would – shall – should – can – could – may – might – must – ought to “the big man had a strong quarterstaff” December 7, 2010 prepared: Amani                                8 Had the big man have strong quarterstaff ? Yes/ No

WH-questions If we want to know specific info., we start the question with WH-questions (Where? When? Why? what? Which? Who? Whose? How?   • 20. Add the WH-questions, as:(When, Where, Why………..etc) then add the helping verb(if is found) before the subject, after the WH-question Or
  • 21. use the helping verb to ask immediately, Or
  • 22. If there isn’t helping verbs in the sentences, use DO & DOES for the present and DID for past
  • 23. Put the subject after the verb and return it to V1
