This document provides instructions for an icebreaker activity called "Where Do You Stand?" Participants imagine a line with extremes on either end and place themselves along the line to indicate their opinions on various topics posed as questions. Example questions include preferences for coffee or tea, being a morning or night person, cake or ice cream, etc. The document then provides instructions for a storytelling activity where participants divide into teams for Betty Boop, Popeye, or the Wolf. When those characters are mentioned in a story, the corresponding team performs an action. The last part provides prompts for an elimination game called "Sit Down If".

Ice Breakers
1. Where Do You Stand?
In the front of the room, create an imaginary line. All the way on the left side is one extreme,
and all the way on the right side is the other extreme. Make sure there is enough space for
people to stand anywhere along this imaginary line.
To play this game, you will ask everyone several questions. Everyone will then respond by
standing somewhere along the imaginary line according to how strong of an opinion they have
on that item. For example, if you ask people “coffee? or tea?” people will stand far along the
left hand side if they strongly prefer coffee, and they will stand on the far end of the right hand
side if they strongly prefer tea. If they are neutral, they will stand in the middle.

2. Betty Boop
Divide the group into 3 Teams – Betty, Popeye, and the Wolf. You are going to read the
following story and when you mention “Betty” that team stands up and says, “Boop-Boop-De-
Doo” (with hip action). When you mention “Popeye” that team stands up and says: “Well, blow
me down”(with arm waving action). When you mention “Wolf” that group stands up and gives
a “Wolf Whistle.” Make sure you pause for group action each time you mention Betty, Popeye,
or the Wolf.
The Story:
Once upon a time, there was a charming young lady named BETTY who was loved by a sailor
called POPEYE. BETTY lived near a great forest in which there roamed a big WOLF. One day
BETTY decided to visit her grandmother who lived in the heart of the forest where the WOLF
lived. POPEYE wanted to go along, but BETTY would not listen and would not let POPEYE
accompany her. Soon the WOLF followed BETTY. The WOLF crept closer and closer, but behind
him came POPEYE! Just as the WOLF was about to leap on BETTY, POPEYE killed him with his
trusty club and saved BETTY’S life. Thus ends the story of POPEYE, BETTY Boop, and the Big Bad
