Basic   premise of teacher education to address sustainability by UNESCO <ul><li>  Within the framework of fostering an increase quality of teaching and learning in ESD,   UNESCO has provided guidelines and recommendation for teacher education. The basic   premise of teacher education to address sustainability is as follows: </li></ul><ul><li>􀂾 ESD is locally relevant and culturally appropriate </li></ul><ul><li>􀂾 ESD is based on local needs, perceptions and conditions, but recognized fulfilling   local needs often has global effects and consequences </li></ul><ul><li>􀂾 ESD engages formal, informal and non-formal education </li></ul><ul><li>􀂾 ESD is a life-long endeavor </li></ul><ul><li>􀂾 ESD accommodate the evolving nature of the concept of sustainability </li></ul><ul><li>􀂾 ESD addresses content, context, pedagogy, global issues, and local priorities </li></ul><ul><li>􀂾 ESD deals with the realms of sustainability – environment, society, economy, and   culture </li></ul>
