1. Log into the SCIS website and click on "Log on to SCIS" and enter your username and password. 2. Click on "create orders" and scan or type in ISBN numbers to create an order. Up to 30 ISBNs can be entered at a time. 3. The results file will appear at the top of the "Orders Table" after processing the order. Click "Results" to view the downloaded records and number of matches found.

2. 1.Open Internet Explorer and go to the SCIS website – click on Log on to SCIS on the top right-hand side . 2. Enter your user-name and password .

3. 3. Click on the SCISWEB button on the left.

4. 4. Click on create orders

5. 5. Scan/Type the ISBN numbers into the order box – 30 ISBN numbers is a good amount to enter. Click Process Order .

6. 6. A file should appear in the Orders Table . The newest results are always at the top of the list. This is your results file

7. 7. Click Results to check on your downloaded results. It will show you how many resources have SCIS records 8. Click on Return to create order page This will take you back to the previous screen

8. 9. Save the file of results so you can import them into your library catalogue. 10. Click on Save

9. 11 . Go to the Desktop and open the folder named SCIS Downloads and save the usmarc.dat file there Everytime you save another usmarc data file you will be asked if you wish to replace the existing file. Say yes . This will means your old file is deleted . Often people make the mistake of downloading data twice into MUSAC, This elimiates this problem.

10. Unmatched Books Sometimes SCIS is unable to find a match for your books by using the ISBN number. You can check SCIS has a record for your book another way. 1. Go to the Create Orders page but , instead click on SCIS OPAC .

11. 2. Click on whichever search you want to do (title, author etc). Add the search text into the box on the left. Click Search . Type the title or author here Choose your search type here

Important Note: When you are searching by title: - do not use the or a (e.g. ‘The Magic Lamp’ becomes ‘Magic Lamp’) - don’t worry about typing capital letters, you can do it all in lower case - ignore any punctuation like apostrophes or commas - you can truncate a long title When you are searching by author: - type the last name followed by the first name (e.g. Margaret Mahy becomes Mahy Margaret) - don’t type a comma between the names

13. 3. A results screen will appear. Scroll down until you find the appropriate record. You can look for the correct author or illustrator or use the date to find the correct record. When you think you have found the right record, click on it. You can click on anything written in blue to get more information.

14. 4. The details of that particular record will appear. (You may need to Check the pagination and the publishing date to confirm it is correct. )

15. 5. If it is the correct record, write down the SCIS number and begin searching for the next book by clicking on the Search button. SCIS Number Once you have a few SCIS numbers matched and written down go back to the SCIS Create Orders page and type in the SCIS numbers just as you would with ISBNs on a normal SCIS download. Proceed as normal.
