Good morning friends. I hope you have had a good break during recess. As your Class Chairperson, I am
excited to share with you my suggestion on what we can do for our end-of-year class retreat. I think for
a change, why don’t we as a class go for an outing to the SungeiSeletar Reserve?
I have many reasons for making this suggestion. Firstly, SungeiSeletar Reserve is a beautiful piece of
Nature Reserve in Singapore. For a city like Singapore that is so famous for its skyscrapers, isn’t it
surprising and refreshing to know that we also have a piece of greenery that we can celebrate? It has an
extensive picnic grounds that is suitable for both picnics and barbeques. If you agree with my
suggestion, we can plan to have our picnic or barbeque here. We can bring our own food / have potluck
or order some barbequed food for use to eat and relax there. What with the beautiful and serene
atmosphere of the park, I am sure we will thoroughly enjoy eating and playing games there.
The second reason for choosing Seletar Reserve is due to its Nature Trails and animals living there. I
have heard stories that you can find squirrels and rare butterflies and birds there. In fact, while hiking up
the trails, you may even come across giant millipedes and ants walking across your path! Isn’t that
exciting? How often can you see these animals in the city? The nature Trails also afford us the
opportunity to hike through the forest. This will certainly give us a good work-out while we are enjoying
ourselves.
The SungeiSeletar Reserve is also famous for its breathtaking scenery. It is well-known for its beautiful
waterfall and pond that gives the area a peaceful and serene atmosphere. Lounging and resting there
after a good hike will certainly relax and distress us. Communing with Nature and enjoying the beautiful
scenery is also good for our emotional and mental health.
Finally for our budding scientists and horticulturists, this place will give them an invaluable experience in
learning more about the flora and fauna of Singapore. They will gain new knowledge on the wide variety
of plants that can be found in the forests.
From here it is clear that this trip will bring us closer together through the picnic and games that we will
have. It will also provide us with a good understanding and knowledge about an aspect of our country
that we do not know of. I think the best time to go is during our post-exam period. We will be very free
then and can therefore plan a good outing for everyone. Before I end, I hope you will agree with my
