2. Talking about movies.
Nick and Lisa are going to a movie theater at the mall. Lisa pulls a newspaper out of her bag.
Lisa : What kind of movie do you want to see, Nick?
Nick: I really want to see that horror movie, Monster Night, but…
Lisa: Monster Night? It sounds scary. I don’t like horror films.
Nick: It’s not in theaters yet anyway. It won’t be coming out until next week. What movies are playing?
Lisa : let me check… There’s a Julia Berto film playing, an action film starring Brad Fit, and…..Monster Night. It’s
already in theaters.
Nick : What ? It is? Which theater is it at?
Lisa : It’s showing at the theater at the mall. But I really don’t want to see it.
Nick : All the critics have given Monster Night great reviews. What time is the next showing?
Lisa : Well, if we hurry, we can make the three o’ clock show. The show after that is at four-thirty. But….
Nick : Come on, Lisa! Don’t be a chicken. Let’s go! We have to get tickets before they sell out!
Movie ratings
Nick and Lisa have arrived at the movie theater. After waiting in line to buy a ticket, they finally
approach the counter.
Lisa : Hey, Nick, Where do you want to sit?
Nick : I like sitting in the front row. There is lots of leg room and the screen feels really big.
Lisa : Sitting in the front row gives me a headache. I like sitting at the back.
Nick : The back is too far away. Let’s compromise and sit in the middle.
Lisa : OK. But I don’t want a seat at the end of the row.
Nick : Why not? If I sit on the end, I can stick my feet out into the aisle.
Lisa : That’s dangerous. Besides, the people who come in late will have to pass by us. That’s annoying.
Nick : Oh, all right! We’ll sit wherever you want.
Nick : Hi, Can we have two tickets to Monster Night, please?
W(Woman) : Monster Night is rated R. Are you over seventeen or is there an adult accompanying you?
Nick : No, we’re students. But I’m sure our parents wouldn’t mind if we watched this movie.
W : I’m sorry. I can’t sell you a ticket to Monster Night. Is there another film you’d like to see?
Lisa : We could see that Brad Fit movie, The American. He’s a good actor, and he’s cute.
Nick: I’d rather see a movie about ugly monsters, but I guess we don’t have a choice.
W : The American is rated PG-13. So, two tickets…That will be twelve dollars.
Lisa : Here you go. Which theater is it playing in ?
W : It’s playing in theater four upstairs. Here are your tickets. Enjoy the movie.
Lisa : Thank you. Come on, Nick. We have just enough time to hit the concession stand.
