3. Thinking Interdependently
Example
Empathy, the ability to listen to other’s thoughts
and feelings over yours.
Support
The instant I hear a student putting down
other’s ideas, I can jump in and ask, “What is a
more inventing way to challenge someone else’s
idea?”
5. Metacognition
Example
Temple Grandin. In the past few years Temple
Grandin has arisen as an educational icon. She
expounds on how she thinks and how she used
that knowledge to function with Autism.
Support
I have students talk through the process of their
ideas. I also provide graphic organizers in order
to organize their thoughts.
7. Persistence
Example
Clara Barton. In 1882 was rewarded for her
continued force and effort in creating the
American Red Cross
Support
Start Students off with small tasks and build
them up to larger ones so they can see success
at intermitent levels and believe that
persistance can work for them.
9. Creating, Imagining, and Innovating
Example
Students constantly make products in class. I
also have them design and create a home for a
historical person.
Support
I can encourage students to make whatever they
think will work, encourage them to try a zany
idea too!
11. Thinking Flexibly
Example
Looking at World War II from a German citizen’s
perspective.
Support
I can provide unharmonious accounts of the
same events, or simply different
perspectives, and have students explain
rationalize the differences.
