2. Sharia The Sharia is the body of Islamic law. The term means "way" or "path". Sharia deals with all aspects of day-to-day life, including politics, economics, banking, business law, contract law, sexuality, and social issues. It is based on the Qur'an, Hadith and centuries of debate and interpretation.
3. Theft Theft is punished by imprisonment or amputation of hands or feet, depending on the number of times it was committed and on the item of theft. However, before the punishment is done two eyewitnesses under oath must say that they saw the person stealing. If these witnesses cannot be produced then the punishment cannot be completed.
4. Theft A Direct translation from the Qur’an by Yusuf Ali read: (From verse 005.038) As to the thief, Male or female, cut off his or her hands: a punishment by way of example, from Allah, for their crime: and Allah is Exalted in power. Another reading says: The reward of those who make war upon God and his messenger and use corruption in the land is that they be killed or crucified or have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides or they be banished.
5. Adultery In accordance with the Hadith, stoning to death is the penalty for married men and women who commit adultery. The punishment cannot be enforced unless there is a confession of the person, or four male eyewitnesses who each saw the crime. 100 lashes can be given if correct evidence is received.
6. General Punishments There are also a number of General Punishments often used when the circumstances require it. Some include: Execution- by crucifixion, by sword, stoning, throwing from a tower, strangling, burning, drowning, trampling by elephants.
