Synthetic Full Backup (ReFS)
23. NEW Fast cloning technology enables up to 10x faster creation
and transformation of synthetic full backup files, all without physically
moving data blocks between files, for even shorter back windows
and lower backup storage load
NEW Spaceless full backup technology allows multiple full backup files
residing on the same ReFS volume to share the same physical data blocks,
resulting in reduced backup storage capacity consumption that rivals
that of a deduplication appliance
NEW Data integrity streams integration leverages ReFS data integrity
scanner and proactive error correction from Storage Spaces to protect backup
files from silent corruption for more reliable forever-incremental archiving

The second Microsoft Ignite conference kicked off yesterday with Microsoft Executive Vice President, Scott Guthrie discussing digital transformation and the key role that technology and IT Pros have to play to enable transformation. Scott covered how IT also needs to transform and outlined how Microsoft Azure along with management and development tools can enable this transformation; demos highlighting hybrid technologies and powerful DevOps capabilities; were popular with attendees online and on social media. Scott was joined by Microsoft Corporate Vice President, Yusuf Mehdi, who dived into essential productivity and security technologies that complement the cloud platform that Scott introduced. Demos highlighting Windows 10, Office 365 and a suite of integrated security capabilities helped bring these topics to life.
Julia White, the Microsoft Ignite host helped to close the morning keynote outlining key investments that Microsoft is making to help support and empower IT Pros and our technical communities, as they evolve and adapt to deliver digital transformation for their organizations.
Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella closed the first day of Microsoft Ignite with a keynote on Democratizing AI. He demonstrated how Microsoft is infusing intelligence into everything it delivers – from the intelligent agent, to intelligent applications, intelligent services and intelligent infrastructure.
Satya showed how Cortana is an unbound intelligent agent, with 133 million users, that has answered 12 billion questions. He shared how Microsoft is infusing intelligence in all of its applications – from SwiftKey, a keyboard that flows with you, not your device; to MyAnalytics to help people learn and make better decisions about how they work to new intelligent scenarios coming to Microsoft Dynamics 365 for sales and customer support. Microsoft also highlighted partnerships with Uber and Volvo, using Microsoft’s Cognitive Services APIs to help with driver and passenger safety and to help educate people about distracted driving. With the help of Deion Sanders, Satya also showed an example of how Microsoft is working with the NFL to bring more intelligence to Fantasy Football rosters with Cortana Intelligence. Finally, Nadella shared how Microsoft is infusing intelligence from the silicon to the cloud and announced that Microsoft Azure is the world’s first AI supercomputer. With all of this innovation, Microsoft aims to democratize AI so that people and organizations around the world can experience the magic of AI to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
