2. The Tao of Facial Rejuvenation
Under the expert guidance of classical Chinese medical practitioner, herbalist, medicine-maker and healer
Joshua Geetter from Telluride, the August session of Venus on the Half Shell explored our facial microsystem
with acupressure and massage, enhanced by essential oils and organic facial masks. Joshua shared many
practical and esoteric treasures from his Taoist lineage with our gathering, including the intricate reciprocity
between facial signs and deeper organic symptoms. Venus on the Half Shell is the generous offering of the
beautiful Judy Godec, owner and formulator of Venus and Vetiver Organic Skincare, and has graciously allowed
me to document the hands-on facial techniques in an easy-to-follow format for use at home.
“could anything be more supremely, stunningly central to human life than the face? and is it any wonder that this
remarkable concentration of sensory lusciousness and power is also a graph upon which all the diminutive (and
not so) secrets of our health and vibrancy are inscribed? through the lens of classical Chinese medicine we
experience the face as portal to not only the mysteries of the body and consciousness but also as a consecrated
glimpse into our True Nature. and our true nature, we know, is to radiate light. the face is the essence of human
luminosity, and facial acupuncture/acupressure provides direct access to vibrant health, producing immediate
and noticeable results. embodying beauty is a sacred practice: we are nothing short of nectar-filled flowers,
here to revel in and share our beauty and our Light. how fortunate we are that embodying beauty has a bona
fide spiritual benefit!” ~Judy Godec

3. Josh Geetter
“In classical Chinese medicine, the face is seen as a sacred structure reflective of the universe.
The seven sensory orifices (eyes, ears, nostrils and mouth) directly accord to the seven stars of
the big dipper. The big dipper is that constellation around which, in the northern hemisphere, the
universe appears to revolve. Similarly, our face is that constellation around which it appears the
universe revolves. So as above, so below.
Also in Chinese medicine, the sensory organs all correspond to internal organs which further
correspond to archetypal emotions. If one takes a survey of the acupuncture points on the face,
one discovers deep significance for organ, emotional, and spiritual health in the actions and
indications of these acupoints. Herein lays fully transformative opportunity for our health through
facial rejuvenation work.”

5. Facial Treatment Prep

always in an upward and outward motion.

8. Facial Massage / Acupressure
1 Start at the third eye. Use both thumbs and forefingers. Ground with your thumbs at the top of the
third eye and massage drawing circles toward the center of the face.
2 Immediately go to the outer top edge of the nose (corresponding to Bladder point 1 | 2) with index
fingers.
3 Then come out from the nose around the top of the orbital bone of the eye. Thumbs will be on top of
the brow with forefingers just underneath. (If you are massaging your own face this will be backwards.)
4 Starting with the inner corner of the eye, massage around the lower portion of the orbital bone.
5 Come down slightly to the hinge of the jaw and massage there.
6 Go to the indentations at the sides of the nose and massage underneath the zygomatic arch
(cheekbone) back to the hinge of the jaw.
9. Facial Massage / Acupressure cont.
7 Connect the governing and conception vessels at the three midline points: just under
the jaw on the neck, between nose and upper lip, and between lower lip and chin with
your fingertips and press.
8 Starting at the center point of the chin work outwards along the jawline towards the
ears.
9 Massage the ears all the way around to the lobes and inside as well. Be sure to pull
outward all the way around and then down on the earlobes.
Ear massage creates space inside the head. It gets awfully crowded and full of thoughts
in there. Our spirit has no room until we create the space for it.
It is important for all of the orifices in our face to be clear. Otherwise we take in mistaken
information about our universe. Clear seeing means seeing with clear eyes, etc.
10. Rolling the Face
Using the larger end of the jade roller, roll along the larger bones of the face, always
outward and upward.
Then turn the roller around and use the smaller end to roll around the smaller areas.
This will help the essential oils to penetrate into the skin and also to deepen the treatment
with the healing power of the jade.
11. Masking
Spread the mask with your fingertips as evenly as possible, drawing up and out from the
neck to the hairline.
Then use the jade roller in the same pattern as before to smooth out the mask. The jade
roller will provide a nearly perfect application of the mask and allow it to penetrate
deeply, imbuing the treatment with jade healing.
The pressure for facial massage, acupressure and when using the jade roller should be
medium, but be sensitive to how it feels and adjust accordingly.
Enjoy your facial rejuvenation and corresponding health!
