Continuous
improvement
Lean Manufacturing:Vermeer has been a leader in
Lean manufacturing for almost two decades. At its
core, Lean is the relentless pursuit of eliminating
waste – helping to boost efficiency in every prac-
tice atVermeer.
• As one example, prior to Lean implementation at
Vermeer, it took 52 days to manufacture a Vermeer
brush chipper from raw steel to finished product, ready
to ship. After Lean, that same brush chipper moves
from raw steel to finished product in only two days.
• Lean is being implemented both domestically and
internationally. A recent Lean event at a Vermeer
dealership in Italy streamlined their practices and freed
up additional time to respond to customer needs.
Leading the way
Vermeer seeks to use its influence as a global
leader in manufacturing to shape smart trade
and business policies, both at state and federal
government levels. CEO and Chair of the Board
Mary Andringa has used her position to lead and
direct the industry:
• Andringa served as the National Association of
Manufacturers chair of the board for 2 years, finishing
her term in 2013.
• As a leader within the Business 20, a committee
under the Government 20, Andringa is helping to
develop business-friendly practices around the globe.
• SincebeingappointedtoPresidentObama’sexportcouncil
in 2010, Andringa has advised the president’s office on
matters related to trade and economic development.
Vermeer prides itself as being a company that positively
impacts its team members, providing them with more
than just a paycheck. From on-site health services to
a well-being program, a community garden to on-the-
job training and educational opportunities, Vermeer
invests in the well being of its employees.
Our culture
• “My favorite part of my job is the people I work with. They
make my job so much more enjoyable.”-Danielle Bennett
• “The best part of my job is the‘thank you’ from that customer
or dealer and knowing by the tone of that person’s voice
that I truly helped him or her.” -Al Vander Linden
• “Our customers value usable equipment, well-built by
a valuable manufacturer. Vermeer is up against some
much bigger manufacturers, and it says a lot that our
customers choose us when they buy equipment needed
to make their livings. If we did not perform well, shopping
elsewhere would be easy.” -Nathan Cox
Giving to others, and recognizing those who do, is part of Vermeer’s vision as a company. Since 2013,
Vermeer has offered all Pella-based team members 8 hours of Volunteer Paid Time Off (VTO), annually
to empower team members to give back to their communities, school systems, ororganizationsofchoice.
