  • 1. There are many reasons we all love it!
  • 2.  Vanilla is a flavor that comes from orchids that are grown from the Mexican species, flat-leaved vanilla plant.  The majority of the world’s vanilla, known as Bourbon vanilla or Madagascar vanilla, is produced in Madagascar and in neighboring islands in the southwestern Indian Ocean, and in parts of Indonesia.  Vanilla is interesting for many more reasons, though. Take a look at the next seven slides to find out what these reasons are:
  • 3.  Vanilla is the only member of the orchid family that bears fruit.
  • 4.  Vanilla was once used in the production of certain medicines, like nerve stimulants, in Europe.
  • 5.  Vanilla, after saffron, is the most expensive spice in the world.
  • 6.  Almost 30 percent of Americans say vanilla is their favorite ice cream flavor.
  • 7.  One tablespoon of vanilla extract contains 37 calories which mostly come from its sugar and alcohol contents.
  • 8.  The Melipona bee from Central America is the only bee that can pollinate vanilla. Humans have learned to duplicate this process by using a wooden needle.
  • 9.  During extraction, organic vanilla extract has 13.35 ounces of vanilla beans per gallon.
  • 10.  If you love vanilla and are interested in purchasing vanilla extract in its organic form, go online to betterbodyfoods.com today.  BetterBody Foods is a health foods store that offers organic products you can shop for and buy online.  Start living a healthier lifestyle by purchasing some organic products today!
