Social workers take that first step every day. There are different types of social workers.
Social Workers help others on a daily basic. Social workers are very important that is why
I have choosen this topic. The longest journey starts with the first step.
A Social worker is someone that helps with immediate needs as well as research to
improve the future. Social workers are people that reach out to the community. They travel
to the jail houses, nursing homes, and group homes. Social workers deal with the unfair, they
deal with the heart broken. Many may feel as if social Workers are just doing there job,
one may feel that there job to protect and support these families. (ehow) Social workers
are very important people they take the extra step to bring peace into your life.
Mental health and substance abuse, Medical and public health, and child and family
support are the main three fields of Social workers, All social workers don’t work
in the same field, however they all do the BEST they can to fix the situation. (Robertson)
Mental health and substance abuse (MHS) is the field where help these people go
through treatments. Social workers for MHS deal with people that has a very bad habit
they need to get rid of. They send them to rehab and check on them to make sure that
they are keeping their end of the bargain, and are still willing to get help. Medical and public
health (MPH) is when the social worker take these families that are dealing with some type
of medical condition they also deal with families that need help to pay for a vist to the doctor.
Social workers help people that have some type of sexually transmitted disease such as AIDs or
HIV, they help them learn how to cope and support these families. They also help families find
away to get to the doctor or to have surgery, those are just a few things that MPH social workers
do. Child and family support (CFS), this field of social worker is when they try to keep these
families together. Social workers are more like LIAILSON. (Beth) Social workers that help
with CFS report them to other services that could help their family stay together or make the

2. home an better environment. These social workers have to be willing to listen and understand
where these families are coming from. They have to have an open mind and heart. CFS
social workers have to ask questions like is this caregiver good for the child or is the child in
fear of the caregiver. Social workers are important because they protect and support and guide
these families, these children, and these mothers (smith).
With every up there is a down with every good there is a bad. Social workers have to deal
with the good the bad and the ugly. They have to deal with the yelling and screaming of the
families. A social workers job is to help these people in the situation. Not many families are
willing to work with social workers. Social workers have to watch their back where they seat,
also the body language to make sure that no harms comes against them. This job also becomes
personal even when they are off the clock, they take these situation, these stories home with
them. You try looking the broken hearted mother who can’t protect her children and tell her
that you have to take her children away, and tell me that it wasn’t hard at all. Social workers
have to listen to that broken hearted mother who can’t feed her children or better yet protect
her children from that crazy man on the other side of the wall. They have to deal with
that father who can’t support his family. Social workers have to write paper after paper. And
how do an social worker deal with the situation when it wasn’t by choice but my fate? Their
job isn’t to change the past but make the future a better place. Sometimes a simple thank you is
all they need to know they helped fix the situation, to know that they have saved a child’s life
or help this family stay together. Social workers make steps and moves every day to fix situation
no matter the out come.
