● Office 365 is a suite of
productivity software by
Microsoft available to
subscribers of their software
plus service.
● Microsoft announced Office 365
in 2010 and allows file
collaboration as well as file
storage in Microsoft’s cloud
storage service - OneDrive.
● Office 365 uses a rolling update model so you always have the latest
features of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lync and more.
● It is multiplatform and designed to use anywhere. Online or off, at your
desk or on the go, from your PC, Mac, iPad, Android tablet, or mobile
phone, you can get to what you need, when and where you need it.

Q. What is OneDrive?
● OneDrive (previously SkyDrive, Windows Live SkyDrive and Windows Live Folders) is a file
hosting service that allows users to upload and sync files to a cloud storage and then access
them from a web browser or their local device.
Q. What is Lync used for?
● Microsoft Lync is an instant messaging client and replaces Windows Messenger.
Q. How easy is Office 365 to setup?
● With step-by-step guidance, you can set up users easily and start using the services fast. You
can access the easy-to-use admin center from anywhere to manage all your services. And
Office 365 takes care of IT for you, so your services are always up and running and up to date.
Q. Is my data secure?
● Built-in security plus compliance and privacy controls help keep your data safe. When you
entrust your data to Office 365 you remain the sole owner of the data: you retain the rights,
title, and interest in the data you store in Office 365. Microsoft will not mine your data for
advertising purposes or use your data except for purposes consistent with providing cloud
productivity services.

Q. Will ’365 work with existing copies of Office?
● Office 365 works best with the latest version of Office, Office 2010, and Office 2011 for Mac.
Office 365 works with slightly limited functionality with Office 2007. *If you have an earlier
edition of Office, you will need to update to a newer version of Office in order to use Office
365; or you can subscribe to one of the many Office 365 plans that automatically include the
latest version of Office.
Q. Does Office 2013 and 365 have cloud support?
● 365 is only in the cloud and Office 2013 can be linked to your cloud storage - OneDrive
Q. What are the alternatives?
● There are a number of alternative products to Office 365. The main ones to consider are:
○ Google Apps for Work
○ Amazon WorkMail
○ Zoho Docs
Q. What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?
● Your data is yours. If you cancel your Office 365 subscription, you can download your data—
for example, your email and documents on team sites—and save it to another location. *You
should save your data before you cancel. After you cancel your subscription, data associated
with your Office 365 account will be available to your administrator(s) in a limited function
account for 90 days.

Q. How is it charged?
● Microsoft have a number of different plans and charge a “per user, per month” licence
subscription model for Office 365; you can also pay annually.
With the Essential (basic) plan you get:
○ 50GB mailbox per user (25MB attachment size limit)
○ 1TB cloud storage per user
○ Mobile Apps for tablets/phones etc. (For the full Office Suite on PCs and on-line
collaboration ability you require the Business plan.)
Q. Are there volume discounts available?
● Discounts are available for Office 365 enterprise agreement customers (typically 250+
licenses) who want to purchase through volume licensing.
Q. What about Non-profits?
● With the Office 365 Nonprofit donation, qualified nonprofits get Office 365 for free or at a
significant discount.
Q. Can I try before I buy?
● You can get a free trial of 365 and we can help with any evaluation/migration help you may
need to consider.
