3. Image Influences
Love of 1960’s Girl Bands
• Amy Winehouse’ Signature beehive hairdo
and Cleopatra make-up was burrowed from
the girl group- The Ronettes.
4. Signing on to a label
• Her boyfriend, soul singer Tyler James, sent her demo tape
to an A&R person in 2002 getting Winehouse signed to
Simon Fuller's 19 Management. The artist was kept an
industry secret while her music and image was being
managed.]Her future A&R representative at
Island/Universal, Darcus Beese, heard her by accident when
the manager of The Lewinson Brothers showed him some
productions of his clients on which Winehouse featured as
vocalist. Having decided that he wanted to sign her it took
several months of asking around for Beese to eventually
discover who the singer was. By this time Winehouse had
already recorded a number of songs and signed a
publishing deal with EMI.
5. Major Success- Frank
• Winehouse’ debut album Frank was released in
October 2003, mainly produced by Salaam Remi.
All the songs were co-written by Winehouse. The
album entered the top half of the 2004 UK charts
and was also nominated for a BRIT award in the
categories of "British Female Solo Artist" and
"British Urban Act". The album went on to have
Platinum (very high quantities) records sales.

‘Back to Black’ album and went on to have
international success.

14. Personal Life
• Despite Amy’s success, one of the most prevalent issues of her
personal life which began to affect her music and also inspire it was
her substance abuse. In 2005 she caught the attention of the public
eye as she underwent weight loss, extreme mood swings and was
associated with drug use. After abstaining, her addiction was said to
have been triggered by her grandmother’s death in 2006. By August
2007 Amy has cancelled several shows around the UK due to
exhaustion and ill health.
• These ordeals bought Amy a lot of criticism as most celebrities due
to their power of being ‘role models’ and how it could glamorise
drug abuse for younger people.
• Amy died at the tender age of 27 due to her addictions, and left a
great impact on people as she was so talented and so young. Many
artists agreed that Amy had become a true icon and had brought
back many things from the past. She inspired many both when she
lived and in her death.
