1. Save libraries day!
This Saturday is ‘Save Libraries day’. Libraries all over the country are in danger of being closed, never to be re-
opened. For those that remain, their hours will be reduced, mobile libraries cut and resources lost.
But...
“I don’t use the library”. Why not? You’re paying for it, and what’s not to like about free books? “I can get
everything I need from the Internet” Actually, you can’t. Google gives you 5,000 answers – your librarian can give
you one – the right one. “I can get books from the charity shops” They’re great shops, but they are not libraries.
You’ll be lucky to find exactly what you need. “I’m a bit busy” If you use your library it will help protect it for others
perhaps less fortunate than you. Besides, you’ll really enjoy it. Take your children with you.
What can YOU do?
Easy – visit your library. Find out what is available. Take out some books, or CDs or a DVD. Use the resources
that are available. Why buy books when you can get them for free? If you want to explore the Internet, the
librarians can help you. Your local library is a wonderful asset – don’t let it go to waste!
