On average, health represents 10% of public expenditure in African countries (vs. 16% in OECD countries).
- 6. Implications This implies that in many countries, public health expenditure are expected to grow, both as a share of GDP and as a share of total public spending. Given the scarcity of resources, it is important therefore that any new money spent on health care is as effective as possible. Good budgetary and financial management systems are therefore crucial.
