2. Flat irons
• In the late Middle Ages , the
craftsmen began to make
simple flat irons. Heated on the
fire or stove.
3. • Late 19th century iron designs experimented
with heat-retaining fillings. Designs of this
period became more and more ingenious and
complicated, with reversible bases, gas jets and
other innovations.
4. Coal irons
• Irons were given containers which were filled with hot coal, that then kept the iron
warm for a longer period of time.
