The document discusses a music video created for Beyoncรฉ's song "Get Me Bodied". It analyzes how the music video uses, develops, and challenges conventions of real music videos. Specifically:
- It relates to other dance music videos and the original "Get Me Bodied" video in its overall form.
- Camera angles, costumes, lighting, and location were used similarly to other music videos to develop conventions.
- However, it challenges conventions by using few props and focusing on dance moves with little lip syncing.
- Fast editing matches the upbeat tempo of the song and develops conventions of portraying mood and rhythm.
2. Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does yourmedia product use, develop or
challenge formsand conventions of real media products?
Our music video is to a R โnโ B song by Beyonce. I believe that it relates to the forms
and conventions of realmedia products such as other music videos by relating to other
dance music videos. It is a similar video to the original Get Me Bodied music video, so it
may develop forms and conventions of music videos of the R โnโ B typical genre.
There are all different types of music videos, which may have different styles and
looks, this may add to the meaning, or create the type of visual that they want the
audience to view. This can be shown in many different ways, for example performative
music videos would be different to dance videos, and narrative videos which will give a
storyline as the song goes along. Supposedly it can also mix.
I think our music video is a narrative because it video follows and focuses on specially
the lyrics of the song, but at the same time my chosen song isnโt really a story. The
lyrics to my chosen song are instructing dance moves, and this may have made our music
video predictable and typical. I think thisis the way our media product (music video)
uses and develops the forms and conventions of other realmedia products, (other music
videos).
I think our range of camera angles were a way of us using the forms and conventions of
real media products. The close-ups in one of the scenes were effective because of the
lyrics that were sang. The scene we used was very similar to the scene in the original
video, this is one of the ways we were conforming to forms of other media products.
Our costumes for our music videos were typical R โnโ B female outfits and we found this
out by researching and looking at other music videos that Beyonce may have been in,
and other female artists in that music genre.
Another way apart from the camera angles were the lighting and the mise en scene
that we used to attract our viewers. Looking at the original music video the lighting
that was used throughout the video was very bright lighting which probably shows the
mood of the song and the characters which is very exciting and positive. Using high
lighting puts this message across and this is another way to develop forms and
conventions of other media products.
I think the way we may have challenged the forms and conventions of other media
products is by using just one location to film the video, and using little lip singing. Props
and things are usually used in music videos, in our music video there are no props only
dance moves with give enough effect to the video.
When we chose our song, we realised that itโs a very up beat tempo and that our editing
would have to fit that. I think the editing we used were fast cuts and matched the song
and beat very well, this is a way that we used the forms and conventions of the media
products.
3. Typical conventions of a real media product are the camera angles, lighting and camera
shots. I think we have contrasted this very well in our music video.
