Prof. Phil Robinson - Supporting Children of Parents with Mental Illness
2016 Milan Link Resume
1. Milan G. Njegovan, Ph.D., CCC
Counseling Approach
As a counselor, I have proficient skills in clinical interventions dealing with adults, children,
and adolescents dealing with addictions/relapse prevention, emotional and behavioural
problems and survivors of dysfunctional families.
My treatment approach is to use cognitive-behavioural interventions to assist my clients in
resolving the issues that placed them in need of services and facilitate their reintegration into
the community. I utilize a bio/psycho/social/spiritual treatment model incorporating Prochaska
and DiClemente's stages of change, as well as, evidence based best practices in the area of
adolescent and adult mental health and substance abuse treatment. Education, prevention,
planning, and transitional supports are an integral part of my approach to effectively counter
the negative aspects of mental health disorders and substance use in my clients. I have
collaborated and/or worked with AADAC and Nechi Institute staff to share best practices in
substance abuse treatment of children, adolescents, adults and their families.
I have received recognition for my work in the field of addictions through being nominated for a Barb
Tarbox Award for my commitment to tobacco reduction in children and adolescents. Further, the
Smoking Education/Prevention Project, that I developed and facilitated, has been nominated for a Barb
Tarbox Award and a Laurel Award. I have received “Bosco Homes – Clinician of the Year 2004” award
for my dedication and program achievements in the field of addictions/mental health with at-risk youth.
