THEME: SHORT PASS SWITCHING – HIGH INTENSITY
WARM-UP (15 MINS) LIGHT MOVEMENT IN AN AREA, DYNAMIC STRETCHING, STATIC
STRETCHING, QUICK FEET
Training Content 1 – 30 mins
Area:
30yds x 30yds (40x40 or 50x50)
Boxes are 5yds x 5yds
Equipment:
Balls, Cones, Bibs
Players:
6 v 6 + 4 (16)
7 v 7 + 4 (18)
8 v 8 + 4 (20)
Rules:
10 passes is a point
Free play then 2 touch then 1 touch
Progressions :
1 Ball must not come out of the same side
that it came in from
2 Players in the boxes can pass to each
other
Key Coaching Points:
1 Open body position to receive the ball
2 Short, sharp passing to switch play
3 Angles of support and positioning
What went well…
Fast tempo with high quality passing and intelligent play, good disguise on passes to
the box players
Even better if…
Shorter rounds of 5/6 mins instead of 8 with 2 mins rest so that players could sustain
high tempo (considering this was 1st
session after weekend games), alternate box
players more

Area:
60yds x 30yds
Equipment:
Balls, Cones, Bibs
Players:
8 v 8 (16)
9 v 9 (18)
10 v 10 (20)
Rules:
Pass through the cones is 1 point
Free play then 2 touch then 1 touch
Penalty point if player obstructs goal
unless intercepting
Progressions :
1 Scoring team keeps possession
2 1 defending player is allowed to stand in
front of goal to block
3 10 passes is also a point
Key Coaching Points:
1 Open body position to receive the ball
2 Short, sharp passing to switch play
3 Angles of support and positioning
4 Awareness of players
5 High quality of passes
What went well…
Players understanding importance of keeping a balance of going for goal and keeping
the ball, fast transition and switches to opposite side showing awareness of first part
of the session
Even better if…
Shorter rounds and more rest, just like the 1st
part, started at high tempo but could
not sustain it, could outside players or neutral players be added to create overload?
