BMSC1103 Since Coming To University - Presentation Transcript

    1. Since coming to University… BY: Louise Elton Laura Goodson
    2. Academic Aspects
      • At the end of the day the main reason for going to University is to gain a degree to further your future career choice.
      • Leeds University makes this very easy as it provides many facilities to help you settle in and make the most of your time.
      • The Medical Science course allows you to direct your degree into a variety of careers through learning a wide range of topics including pharmacology, physiology and neuroscience.
    3. What we enjoy about the Course…
      • The BMSC1110 course material is very broad, which allows you to develop your skills in a number of areas. If you don’t enjoy a topic, it’s ok, because there will surely be one to suit you later on in the course.
      • This means students can discover the types of material they enjoy and how best they learn it.
    4. The BMSC1103 Practical Sessions
      • Each week, there is an opportunity to carry out a new experiment in the 3 hour practical slot.
      • Every experiment involves a specific aspect of science, such as Spectroscopy or Electrophoresis. All of which coincide with the theory work provided in the BMSC1110 lectures that week.
      • The work booklet is useful as it gives an overview of the practical and test your knowledge about the understanding of the investigation.
    5. IT Sessions
      • By attending IT classes each week, it has opened our eyes to a greater number of programmes that can enhance our work, improving its quality.
      • The IT sessions can also be a nice break from the monotony of lectures and writing notes, giving you a chance to broaden your knowledge practically.
    6. Social Aspects
      • Everybody comes to University for the drinking, clubbing, and socialising events.
      • Although, moving away from home and learning to be independent is a big step, where the tasks of everyday life are start to occupy your spare time.
    7. Social Events at Leeds…
      • We love the amount of available activities and the variety of events open to us at Leeds. The BMS society being a great group to join, as you can not only meet new people and have fun, but also get to know the people on your course.
      • The nightlife is amazing at Leeds, with plenty of clubs, bars and restaurants for everyone’s needs and it is all so close to campus!
      • The Union also provides a great atmosphere, with events on most nights. The Terrace provides a place for those students who just want a quiet drink, not too far from their accommodation, and the clubs; Stylus, Mine and Pulse allow a great but cheaper night out.
    8. Fresher’s Week
      • This week is one of the most memorable weeks whilst at University!
      • There are events on every night of the week at various venues all around the city. Each have great student deals with drinks as cheap as £1.
      • The fresher’s fair was a good way to meet people with the same interests as you and there are loads of free goodies, such as free nail painting and lots of yummy sweets!
    9. Summary
      • Overall coming to Leeds University was a great choice for us!
      • The friends we have made make the whole experience of University more enjoyable and have helped us to settle in and adapt to the changes of independent life.
