Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well
Evaluation question 7
1. Looking back at your preliminary
task , what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to
the full product?
2. Shots
One of the most important yet easy skills we learnt from the preliminary task
was to start filming a scene a few second's before the action begins in order
to give some extra time that can be cut to make the perfect edit.
We found that by not doing this it made our editing style jumpy and
unpleasant to watch as it would not flow well.
In conjucntion with this we also learnt that if a shot is not satisfactory it’s a
good idea to film it a number of times to make sure that you are left with lots
of options when editing so that you can review the recorded clips and make
the best decision relating to your piece.
And along with this if a scene is not working out as expected sometimes it is
better to come back to it either later on or at a later date to really perfect it
instead of settling for second rate shots.
3. In our preliminary task we has trouble with this match on action moment as we had cut
the clip of Tabatha walking through the door it was almost impossible to export from
the camera and we had to do many tries to salvage the short clip.
Lesson learnt!
4. Camera Angles and techniques
• we have learnt to include and even bigger range of effective
camera angles since the preliminary task
• We have learnt the use of focus
• And the use of panning
5. Planning
A key skill we developed and learnt from our preliminary task is the
importance of good planning; despite using a storyboard for our preliminary
task we took more care this time round to add in all the necessary details we
felt would help us film including more accurate timings as the preliminary
task gave us insight into what timings in film are like.
Although in conjunction with this we also left room for free flowing ideas to
be able to be added whereas with our preliminary task storyboard we
followed it rigidly with no exceptions.
Another aspect of planning we learnt was to think about location precisely ,
in our preliminary task we filmed in an open area of our school which
resulted in people constantly walking into our shots , not only did the aspect
of our setting being isolated make it important that no one walked into our
shots but also for a professional finish it is best not to have passers by
entering your shots.
6. By planning we were able to resolve our unwanted
extra’s problem!
