How to Completely Erase the
Memory and Change the Code
of Garage Door Openers

Sometimes there are instances where we need to erase the memory of our
garage door openers and change the remote code. Here are a few reasons we
have listed along with a guide on how to change your specific garage door
opener remote code.
1. If one remote button is activating any of your neighbor’s doors
2. There is an unwanted remote that keeps activating your garage door opener
3. You just bought a home and you want to set the garage door opener out of
the factory default
4. You lost your remote control or it has been stolen

Below is the guide on how easy it is to erase the memory. Take note that erasing
the memory will remove all codes for remote controls and keyless entry from
your garage door opener and will require you to reprogram them.
1. Start by locating the learn button, it’s either on the side or at the back of the
motor unit; it’s usually on the same side of the antenna wire or under the
light cover..
2. To gain access, remove the light lens cover or open the control housing unit if
it is not visible to the eye.
3. Your learn button may come in green, purple, orange, yellow or red where a
LED light is located next to it if it is a Liftmaster for example.
4. Once you have located and gained access to the button, press and hold the
learn button until the LED light goes out which is approximately 6 seconds.
Remote control and keypad memories have now been erased.

After erasing all the codes, you may now reprogram your remote and keyless
entry keypads. Below is the step-by-step guide:
1. Again, locate the learn button on the back of the overhead motor.
2. Next you press and release the learn button, the led light should now be
flashing.
3. Within 30 seconds, you have to press and hold the desired button on the
remote control for 3 seconds or so and then the indicator light will turn off or
the lights on the operator starts to blink that would mean that
reprogramming has been completed.
4. Then, test the remote control and see if it activates or moves the door
successfully, then it is reprogrammed. If it didn’t work, repeat steps 2 and 3
until successful. Take note that you should not leave the garage door open if
you are not done reprogramming your remote as you might forget to close it
later.
