2. Horses Through History Since ancient times, horses have been used for transportation, as pack animals, and for other laborious tasks. It is estimated that the first horses to be domesticated were in central Asia in 3500 BC. No one knows exactly when horses were first ridden, but riding skills were well developed by 1500 BC Even 5000 years ago, horses were kept in hand made corals.
3. “For more than 3,000 years, a warrior on horseback or horse-drawn chariot was the ultimate weapon.”* Soldiers with horses fighting against soldiers without had an incredible advantage over the horseless army. Horses were used in war even into the 1900’s.

The great strength of the horse was harnessed and used for pulling and carrying heavy loads. “Horses have cleared forests, plowed land, herded cattle and driven machines.”* Horses were used for mass transportation in cities. “In 1900, around 130,000 horses worked in Manhattan—more than 10 times the number of taxicabs on the streets of New York City today.”*
