Points to Remember
• Study Island administrator will need to go to the admin page, click 'Allow
classroom response system (CRS) integration,' and choose "Yes" from the
     dropdown box.
• Schools must already have the SMART Response software installed – and it
should be the newest version available. (v. 3.0)
• SMART Response must be running prior to starting a Study Island - SMART
Response session. It is ok to minimize SMART Response to the system tray.
• Browsers will need to have Java 5 or above and Java Webstart. Webstart is
bundled with Java 6, and will automatically download on first use with Java 5
• The stats will automatically import into Study Island’s School Stats area when a
     teacher clicks 'End Session'
• Teachers can see reports with the questions divided by topic, then can click the
student’s name to see question info, then can click the question info to see the
     actual question and answers
• Teachers can run SMART Response sessions with their classes or ‘No Owner’
classes only; admins can run SMART Response sessions with any class.
• The question display on the responders will always be #1. You will not see the
display advance to question 2, then 3, then 4, etc.

To have a SMART Response™ session in Study Island, perform the
following steps:
>>SMART Notebook is not needed and should not be open.
>>A class must be set up in the SMART Response Software. When adding students
to your SMART Response Class, use the students’ NC WISE number as their
Student ID.
1. Make sure SMART Response is installed, the receiver is connected, and the
receiver is ready for sessions. You can verify that the receiver is ready to
start a session by ensuring that the receiver's indicator light is green.
2. Open the class in SMART Response and select START CLASS
3. Log into Study Island.
4. Select the appropriate grade from the programs area in the left column on
        the screen.
5. Select the appropriate subject.
6. Select the topic(s) you wish to test.
7. Click 'Start Studying'.

10. Select the number of questions.
11. Click 'Next'.
12. Select the appropriate class.
13. Turn on the responders. Find Class. Students should use their NC WISE
number as their ID to log into the class.
14. In order for scores to correctly pass from the responders to Study Island,
each student should use the same responder every time the responders are
used for a Study Island assignment. Label each responder with the student’s
      name or with a number (1, 2, 3, etc.).
15. ****If this is not the first time you have used the SMART Responders with a
Study Island assignment with this class, skip to STEP 31.
16. ****IF THIS THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE USING THE RESPONDERS WITH
STUDY ISLAND WITH THIS CLASS, COMPLETE STEPS 16-31
17. Do not have all students turn on clickers at once. They will turn them on and
log in one at a time as you direct them. This is for only the first time you set
up the responders with Study Island.
18. The Responder ID defaults to a 6-8 character/digit code. Click DETECT
PAD ID- When the Detect Pad ID step is done, the responder ID will be seen
beside each student’s name. In order for scores to correctly pass from the
responders to Study Island, each student should use the same responder
every time the responders are used for a Study Island assignment. Label
each responder with the student’s name or with a number (1, 2, 3, etc.).
19. Click 'Next'. It will take a while for the application to load. The application
must download several files the first time the application runs which could
take up to 5 minutes with a slower connection. Subsequent sessions will load
      in 30 seconds or less.
20. Have the first student turn on his/her responder, join his class, and type in
      his ID (NC WISE number)
21. Click Start Polling
22. The student should then press the letter A on his responder, press Enter, and
Enter again at the Finish prompt.
23. You should then see the Responder (Pad) ID on the screen. Drag the PAD ID
number to the blank box beside that student’s name.
24. Have the next student repeat the same process. And so on until all students
have logged in and a Pad ID has been dragged to the box beside each name.
25. CLICK SAVE and CLOSE (You won’t have to do this step again with this
      class).
26. Select the appropriate mode: Teacher Led
27. The first Study Island question will appear
28. Click 'Start Polling'.
