What is an HDMI Switch Used for?
In our technologically advancing world there is becoming
more and more need for the use of an HDMI switch.
Consumers are using more devices along with their HD
televisions. The increased use of game devices and various
types of DVD players has made the switch necessary for
convenience sake. As television manufacturers are turning
out more High Definition (HD) TVs other electronics used in the entertainment
industry are making full use of the HD capabilities. Cable companies, game
systems and DVD players are all enhancing their products by making them more
enjoyable for users. With households increasing the use of these devices and
want to hook them all up to their HD television, the need for an HDMI switch to
accommodate.
With an HDMI switch several HD sources can be hooked up to one HD monitor or
television set. Most consumers will want to purchase at least a 3x1 switch. This
unit has 3 inputs and the 1 output. The output is hooked up using one port on the
back of the television while all of the other video sources are plugged into the
appropriate inputs on the switch. The monitor will then display the sound and
picture that is sent from the video device. Some households have more than
three video devices and will prefer the 5x1 unit. This model has inputs for 5 HD
sources to be attached to the monitor. This is convenient so that there is no need
to switch cables every time a different video system is used.
2. Some models are a 2 port system, but it usually does not contain enough inputs
for most households. When there are only 2 inputs they are taken by the cable
connection and a DVD player. This leaves no room for other devices such as game
systems or other forms of DVD players such as Blue-Ray.
Several devices can be connected to the television set using an HDMI switch and
only one cable between the unit and the television. There is usually a remote that
comes with the unit so that it is easy to switch between using the various devices
that are plugged in to the inputs.
It will require a standard plug for power. Many come with various energy saving
options such as an automatic standby mode. This can save power when the inputs
are not being used. It is essential to have an HDMI switch to use with all the
electronic video devices.
