25 years ago, when I was 17 years old, a close friend spoke these words to me,“…you don’t even know that you are a remedy… a solution… you are medicine for some ill God wants to heal in this world!”
It took me eight years to understand what she meant.Finally, at age 25, I was baptized. Immediately, I began my pursuit of the “life as a remedy” she spoke of. The life God designed for me.

Rev. William Derek Lee was born and raised inBrooklyn, New York. He attended New York City publicschools through high school, earned his Bachelors Degreefrom St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, and Master ofDivinity degree from Drew Theological Seminary inMadison, New Jersey.In October 1998, he was licensed to preach by Rev.Anthony Trufant at Emmanuel Baptist Church (Brooklyn,New York) and hired as Emmanuel’s pastor for youth. Heserved in that capacity for two years before he waspromoted to Executive Pastor. Rev. Lee was a vital part ofthe growth Emmanuel experienced under Pastor Trufant.Average worship attendance rose from 400 to over 1400per Sunday and Emmanuel eventually added 2 newservices including a casual Saturday evening worship. Hewas ordained in the Baptist denomination in the spring of 2002. In the summer of the same year, he leftEmmanuel to serve as Executive Pastor of Macedonia Church in Pittsburgh, Pa.While at Macedonia, Rev. Lee was instrumental in developing an administrative and facilities management staff,which greatly improved the efficiency of church operations. He instituted programs that significantly increasedattendance, particularly on special emphasis Sundays and holidays. He also led a successful stewardshipcampaign, collecting over $100,000 above normal giving during the traditionally low giving summer months.In the summer of 2004, he returned to New York and Emmanuel Baptist to serve as assistant pastor. In April of2006, Rev. Lee spearheaded the launch of Ai the Ministry in Jersey City, New Jersey. Identified as a churchplant by Emmanuel Baptist, Rev. Lee worked to build a dynamic ministry that helped to reveal Godstransforming power as experienced through second chances. Until August of 2012 he served under Rev., Dr.Vernon Walton (Senior Pastor at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood, New Jersey) as Pastor for YoungAdult Discipleship.Reverend Lee resides in New Jersey with his wife, Michelle, and their five children. He is an avid movie andbasketball fan. As a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., he looks to serve the community boththrough and outside the church.
